Inverted flags?

Post by SlyOwl »

Hey all! ;)
I purchased Troll Assault Wagon whilst I was on holiday the past 3 weeks (hence no MOCs), and to my surprise, the gold flag was "inverted" - it waves to the right first, and then the left, unlike the official shown below.

Neither Bricklink nor Peeron recognizes this part; is it a mis-mold? And is it common? - Has it happened to anyone else?

It seems very strange though, as it wouldn't make sense to release a new mold which is practically identical to another...
:?

I hope it's rare :D

Hey Sly,

Yeah, that's odd. This came up this spring and was discussed in this thread. IIRC no one had a clue why they seem to have made a reversed mold.

For those who are confused, look closely at these two flags:

Yep thats how my Tower Raid and troll wagon as well. I thought it might be just Europe until others in North America turned up with it as well. My guess is just new mold, likely inverted on accident and put into production.

Yes it is common, I have heard of several other people getting them in the new castle sets. I got one in the Tower Raid.

I got a sandgreen and a gold version of this inverted Flag. The sandgreen one comes with 7037, the golden one I got with the giant chess set

I received inverted dark blue and gold flags in a recent 7009 Castle Joust purchase. (Also has the new sabotaged "pointy" visor).

I just thought of it as I built it, and went to check - lo and behold they were indeed opposite from my existing flags.

Cool. It's always nice to have a little harmless variety in the shapes of pieces.

I'd love to know if this is actually a mold variant or a production error. It seems extremely odd for LEGO to produce these, yet at the same time I'd love if if they became more common.

I've gotten a couple of these. I know I have a couple in sandgreen and gold. Might have one in dark blue.

I'm wondering if someone reversed the CAD file when they made a replacement mold. I'll bet Lego's quality control people don't even know about it. The Quality Engineer that I talked to didn't know about the horse norse variant. I'm willing to bet that this slipped through too.

I have also gotten a few inverted flags, except the dark blue inverted flag was kinda transparent :?
I welcome this accidental or on purpose variation though. :)

JoshWedin, is the horse nose variant when you can put things IN the nostrils, because I have a few of those
and I think they ruin the horses.
I love Yellow Castle and all it's yellowiness!

Yes, that's the horse variant. I have my own theories as to why the mold was made that way, but it was a long time ago and no one at Lego seems to know why.

Josh

PS. I sort of collect those horses. If you want to get rid of them, send me a PM and we can talk.
