Lego factory castle series

Post by draugaer »

The other day I created a thread about a tournament tent i designed for lego factory. In that thread I sort of annouced that I was going to be creating a whole series of castle related kits for factory.
This thread is more the "official" annoucement, rather than create a new thread for each kit I design, I decided to create one thread for them all. I'll update this main post whenever I finish a new set.

My goal here is basically to create castle sets that are avaliable for puchase through lego factory. I'm trying to do them in the spirit of classic castle (though factory has some limitations). I'll be trying to make the kits pretty close to what you would expect from an offical set in terms of piece count and price (though I hope to better their designs :D). Also, like offical themes I'll have sets in a variety of price ranges.

check the brickshelf gallery for additional images:
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=342677

sets (all prices in USD):
#1 Tournament tent $14.41 133 pcs.
(link to existing thread): viewtopic.php?t=15062

#2 Trebuchet $9.58 99 pcs.
buy it: http://shop.lego.com/Product/Factory/Pr ... 13e8875387

Designed to fire by pulling out the technic pin, (not tested with real bricks yet!)

Like the old castle sets the sides can be moved to an "expanded" position. However there aren't any good hinges in factory, so the walls attach via pegs in the 2 different posistions rather than freely hinging.[/url]

I wonder if the yellow castle 375 is possible to build on there, without figs of course?

Just updated the main post with my latest addition to my theme: Baron's Bastion.

Baron's Bastion is the main castle of my theme (think king's castle or BFF). Like the old castle sets the side walls can be moved to make an expanded castle (yes, I will be making more modular wall elements to expand Baron's Bastion). However due to piece limitations of Factory, The walls do not feely hinge open, but there are pegs/holes that enable the castle to be configured in either the standard or expanded posistion.

The set costs $65.83 and has 566 pieces. $65.83 might seem like a steep price compared to the "classic castles" but those are 20 years old now (inflation)- This set is pretty similar to BBF interms of its size/price.
.......................................................
Raidersofdays- You could come pretty close to doing a perfect replica of the yellow castle. I think the yellow castle had black double-convex 75 slopes in it though? -those are probably the only pieces you'd not have access to.

Updated main post with a new set- Lord's Lists.
Its a joust set and a homage to the old joust set of 1981. In a nod to that set, Lord's Lists includes improved brick built horses, and the design of the grandstand is also similar to that of the 1981 set.

Wow, between yours and Gomur's custom stuff, one could make a really AWESOME custom Lego Castle world! I'd buy all of it, if of course, I had the extra money...

The brickbuilt horses are great! I don't really like the front legs though, isn't there a different way to make them?
You should try to make some more animals. :)

I've thought about trying to make a castle themed set together in Lego Factory. It is good that you did it. That gives me some hope that some of my ideas might work.

Thanks!

Just updtated the main post with another new set: Ale Corner

Ale Corner is a small modular wall segement for expanding #3 Barons Bastion. It has a relatively straight-forward design but features half timber construction.

DNL- Thanks for the compliments about the horses, I tried some different tecniques with the front legs, but they looked to "stumpy" to me. The ones in the set were (imo) the best I could do with the limited parts offered by factory :? I'll definatly try to get some more brick-built livestock into my sets.

Hey man! I like your sets a lot, particularly that Tournament Tent. I was inspired by looking at yours to start doing mine in the first place.

I love those horses. Very inspirational. I going to try and see if I can incorporate some of your ideas into my own brick-built horses. Thanks for your fine work.

Do you guys think that any of these and Gomur's stuff will still be in stock around Christmas? If so, I know what's going on my list!

Thanks for all the positive feedback, its great to hear I've inspired some people.

Added another new set: Smith's Shop. Smith's Shop is another modular wall section for expanding Baron's Bastion. As you can probably guess, its a blacksmith's workshop and includes a brick-red forge, quenching water, anvil, and various tools.

On another note, I'm thinking about creating Custom faction decals to go along with my sets to make it a full new theme. I'll make a cost in castle customs when I have those done.

They are all very nice, I like the blacksmith shop, it's simple, but would make a great addition to any castle.

I also like the trebuchet, one of my co-workers made a lego trebuchet out of technic pieces and filled the counter-weight full of ball-bearings. We spent the better part of our lunchbreaks for a few days launching super-balls across the aisle. I've been meaning to make one for a while since then, yours are very cool.
