1980's LEGO ad
Some of my favorite memories of LEGO were browsing through the early 90's LEGO catalogs and Lugnet's cache of the boxart for sets I was too young to have had the chance to get. The other day I found this and thought I'd share:

Anyone else have older ads or LEGO the younger FOL's may have missed out on? Perhaps more importantly, am I the only one interested by stuff like this?

Re: 1980's LEGO ad
I love them, and have fond memories of browsing, leafing and wishing through them. Unfortunately the earliest catalogue I have now is 1994- I threw a lot of them out when I was younger, because back then nearly every set had one in it.
Peeron have a number of scans too.

I actually have kept some of them from the 80s. I will try posting some once I get back to the USA if I can find them. I rather enjoyed the old scenes in the booklets they did for the many themes... pity they do not really do that anymore.

Hah! I was going to say this one: http://peeron.com/catalogs/1990/medium/17/?id=110 although the next page holds just as much nostalgia for me: http://peeron.com/catalogs/1990/medium/19/?id=110

LOL, I forgot all about Zack. "He's a Lego maniac..." Now that song is stuck in my head.
I had a few of the catalogs from the late 80's early 90's that I hung on to. They're fun to look through and dream about all the vintage sets I should have bought when I was a kid/teenager. I forgot how much crossover there was between the factions and that there were several different Castle lines all out at the same time.
Sorry for the poor quality, all I have is a camera phone right now.

Re: 1980's LEGO ad
I could be wrong, but I think Zack is an American-only advertisement campaign (I don't know if it's limited to the US, maybe Canada too?), I had never heard of him before, until I was looking for old Lego commercials on Youtube about a year ago.
All the Lego commercials we had here didn't have Zack (or any constantly returning personage, for that matter) in them.

Re: 1980's LEGO ad
Oh ya, old ads are great. I particularly miss those awesome dioramas they set up using the official sets and custom scenery. I wish they'd make those again. I've fortunately kept every bit of printed material I've ever gotten from the Lego company, so I have something like a 2-foot high stack of old catalogues and magazines, though some of them were looked at so much when I was kid that they've all but disintegrated now. Still great to pull out and ogle, though.

Yah I also love the old ads, from before the days of various powerful graphic editing software packages.

Anyone remember this Toys 'R' Us commercial featuring the giant Castle mini-figs. And yes that is Jaleel White before he played Steve Urkel building 6080 King's Castle. (Note that most of the commercial is not about Lego but it does have that one really good bit.)
