The next Legoland?

Post by Bruce N H »

Hey all,

According to this article, Merlin Entertainment, the company that operates the Legoland parks, is in negotiation with the owners of Cypress Gardens. Cypress Gardens is a recently-closed theme park about 40 miles from Disney World in Florida. So there may well be another Legoland in the US in the future.

(BTW, the "next" Legolands are actually under development in Dubai and Malaysia. I'm just much less likely to get to those.)

Is there going to be or is there already a Legoland near the northeast coast?

No, and there probably won't be. There's a reason that Disneyland and Disneyworld are in California and Florida - no winter, longer tourist seasons. With Legoland you have the additional aspect that you've got all of these LEGO creations sitting outside exposed to the weather.

That makes better sense than the Kansas idea they were poking around a couple years back. Florida and California are vacation destinations, more-so for the playground kingdoms of Florida I think. It would be in the best interests of the company to sponsor one there.

This is interesting. I wouldn't have thought they would put another one in the U.S. I guess Legoland California is doing pretty well now.

That would be fantastic. I've been trying to get out to Cali since the park opened but can't seem to get a good air fare or reasonable hotel room rate.

Florida? No problem.

It's official. Merlin and LEGO announced the next US park will be in Florida, at the site of the now-closed Cypress Gardens theme park, about a half hour from Disney. Here's an article.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like it will be open by mid-March, when we're planning on being in Florida.

I'm excited for a second park, indeed I am. And Florida is probably a really good choice, because of all the tourism there. But at the same time, I would have really liked a different area.

It would be nice to have one in the north of the UK, but I guess America is a bit bigger so needs more :?

By that logic, I'll expect a LegoLand Hawaii here sometime soon. ;)

[Of course, I am joking (somewhat). A Legoland in Japan would probably do better.]

Aaaaand up goes the price of sets. Dubai would be a cool place for one. I'd like to go over there if not just to see all the buildings they make out of money.

And a Dubai Legoland would of course boast the tallest Lego structure ever built! But wouldn't the bricks melt in the sun? :eyebrows:

Maybe they'll build it in their indoor ski resort.
