A stone house.

Post by David C. »

I think this is in the proper forum this time... :) If not, please let me know.

The roof will lift off, and one wall is also hinged so it will swing open. Unfortunately, I have not yet had time to move all of the pieces so I can have pictures that demonstrate those two features. There are about 740 pieces in it right now. In addition, I have not yet finished the multi-colored walls; I'm still trying to figure out how much of each color should be in them. Let me know what you think!

Edit: Here's a picture of the interior:

Can't see the first pic yet, but the second looks good.

You ARE onto something.

It's an interesting LDRAW MOC, but I'd rather see it actually built first to test structural integrity. I can't help but think that it would be flimsy as far as playability is concerned.

Maybe make it a wee bit bigger, and add a window if you can. Also this seems like a low class house, so loose the fancy red bed cover, and maybe make a tan or brown one. I'd love to see it built!

You would have to buy quite a few mosaic sets to get enough 1 x 1 plates to build this, the cost of 1 x 1 plates might make this a hard set to keep the price down on. I would love to see it built though.

It would be an awesome set. You could you use bricks in some spots instead of plates to lower the costs. Probably like $20.00 USD each if it was a set. I wouldn't buy one though, I would spend my money on bulk bricks.

Creative idea, but I wouldn't buy one... at least not before seeing it built with normal bricks.

Okay, I've seen the exterior pic now, and I have to say that it looks good, but I'm wondering how much structural integrity those 1x1 plates provide.

Maybe I just an ignorant ignoramus, but I can't help but think that they aren't that strong.

Hello!

No, you should not. If anybody should make it a custom set it's Reinhard 'Ben' Beneke who originally designed a house like this (pic = link):

This gallery:http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=69760
has a house made using this method. It looks great, but the cost of those plates would be a little daunting especially for a custom set. Rather than try to sell it as a set, why not build it to show it off. You would probably have more luck putting decent instructions together and selling them on Bricklink. I have purchased custom instructions before, but I prefer to source out parts myself.

Amazing!

I start mentioning the Sphinx baseplate, and lo and behold! one appears.

The only bad thing I can say about this pic, Jojo, is that it isn't Castle (although it could easily be converted), which is but one of the good things that can be said about David's house.

Castle is always good. (KK2 is good because it's Castle, even if it is good for no other reason. And really, there ARE a few other reasons.)

Ha! Nice work Jojo,

I was posting my link to his house probably just as you were doing it. Great minds think alike. :D I don't think many custom set builders outside the GOB have had very successful custom set sales, so I would probably never recommend trying to make money this way. It is very possible David never saw this house before, so selling instructions to his own house would not be a bad thing. I'd probably buy instructions to Reinhard 'Ben' Beneke's house before I would buy instructions for David's. Sorry David, but his house is a little nicer.
