Yellow Gatehouse Finished Update 9-3-11

Post by soccerkid6 »

This is the outer Gatehouse I'm going to be using for my castle. The back of the towers opens, and you can raise the portcullis with a winch.
This is my first try at landscaping, from the side pictures you can see the technic bricks I hid in the hills, I will be using this to connect it to other segments.
There is a full interior, with beds, weapon racks, and ladders.

I looked around on the forums for awhile and that is where I found most of the building techniques I used. Also thanks for the inspiration to build a detailed Lego castle.

Pretty much got the whole second story done, will finish it soon.

What a cool first Moc. There are lots of really nice details, especially the cobblestone road, doors on the back of the towers and portcullis. The variation of white on the yellow also adds a nice texture to the walls.
You would rather be building right now.

Looks like your first MOC is off to a good start! I really like the road and the well, and the way you made the gate is something, albeit in my limited exposure, I haven't seen before. Keep up the good work, and keep us updated on the progress! :D

Thanks for the encouragement!

I found the idea for the portcullis on this forum, there are trapdoors above the ladders as well, they are kind of hard to see.

I was going to make the well circular, but the way I was going to do it the well was way too big. I intend to put a rope on the crank, just haven't found it yet.

Thanks again for the opinions.
Any ideas on how to improve it are welcome.

It almost brought a tear to my eye to see someone go with yellow. This looks like a fun little castle. Welcome to the forum!

Thanks, I didn't want to go with grey or black and I thought yellow with white would look pretty cool but still be kind of realistic. Still waiting for my order to arrive but as soon as it does I will start work on the second story. Have not quite decided on how I'm going to do the archer slits, but I have a couple ideas to choose from. I'm trying to make it very easy to play with as well as realistic. It's a little bigger than I realized when I started it, makes me wonder how big the castle to go with it is going to be.

Advice or comments always appreciated!

What a great first MOC! I love the pathway and the castle itself. Really brings back the feel of Classic yellow Castle.

The path is another technique I found on this forum. Glad you all think it is off to a good start, now I've just got to finish it the same way.

I'm changing the bottom windows slightly, I'll try to get some pictures up in a little bit.

As always comments, advice, and questions are welcome.

Thanks.
Tomorrow I might be able to get some more pictures up, I changed the windows, and am working on some walls. Which is the most I can do til my pieces get here.

It's finished :D Pics are in first post.
