[MOC] LEGO Ideas: Modular Knight's Castle

Post by gerkenz »

We all love modular castles, right?

I found this one: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/17d4e594-41f ... 6eed61d53d at LEGO Ideas.
Made by klockizbroda.

I hope I places this info at the right place!?

Thanks for sharing! I think that is a cleverly designed castle set. I'd probably buy it if it were an official set.

Hey,

Here are some pics of that MOC by klockizbroda:

That is really great. I've long argued that LEGO should produce a modular castle line (e.g. in this thread). Of course modular building has a long history in LEGO. From 1984 to 1990, Castle sets mostly fit into a standard, where the walls could link up. E.g. look at 6040 - Blacksmith Shop and 6061 - Siege Tower.

We have a thread here about those classic sets, when they were produced, how they fit together, etc.

More recently (still 8 years ago) there was a little bit of this in the Tolkien theme with 9474 - The Battle of Helm's Deep and 9471 - Uruk Hai Army. The small wall section in 9471 fit onto the large wall of 9470. By buying multiple sets you could extend the wall, and also they were great army builders.
BrickTime has a pic of the two sets side by side:

And FBTB has this pic with multiple iterations of the smaller set building out the wall:

BTW, searching around I found another MOC that has been posted on LEGO Ideas that uses a modular style, this one using the standard from the classic LEGO sets - Secret of the Castle by Alpine Builder.

The second pic shows his MOC combined with some of the classic sets from way back.

LEGO, whether you go with one of these LEGO Ideas suggestions or something else, take note, modular building is the way to go! You've done it in the past, you can do it again in the future.

Yes, thanks for the pictures and research about the official released modular sets. :)
