Bricklink Designer Program

Post by jtooker »

The next round of the Bricklink Designer Program has begun. 31 LEGO Ideas submissions that reached the 10k votes may be produced as semi-official sets - but only the first 15 (was 13) funded (via pre-order) will be produced. Several castle themed sets are in 'pre-production '. With the lack of an official castle line, and a mention on the LEGO Ideas site/blog - I'd consider these LEGO Castle Sets.

The most-castle themed sets: Update: preorders start July 1st.

Thanks for sharing. It some good news after the "Disturbing News about the Future of Lego Castle" topic. I agree that the castle one is my favorite. It also has the best creating pieces.

I agree, sadly, sets in the Bricklink Designer Programmer must use already existing (in production?) parts.

I'm confused. :? . Is the Brickink designer program the same as LEGO ideas? A lot of the MOCs (if not all) on Bricklink Designer program and LEGO Ideas.

This 'round' they only chose 10k LEGO Ideas that did not go on to official sets. Ignoring how the sets are chosen, a big difference between this program and LEGO ideas is this program is done through Bricklink and all orders are pre-orders. So you order, then the sets are made and shipped. No one will have a chance to buy them later or in a store (LEGO or otherwise).

The first day of preorders has been pushed back to July 1st.

Also, check out this video by the "The Castle in the Forest" designer: https://youtu.be/pspkLLz0ECk - this set looks incredible!

Just a reminder the Bricklink Designer Program goes live tomorrow and you'll have 6 weeks (or less) to order any of the 7 sets, including the amazing Castle in the Forest by povoq.

The castle hit funding (3000 pre orders) in under 20 minutes and completely sold out (5000) in under an hour. Hey Lego, get the hint yet?

Sold out in about 30 minutes...

I doubt they will get the hint. As far as I can tell, they have no interest in having a castle line. They will occasionally throw us fans bones, but some of them are going to be like this where there's no point in getting remotely excited unless one is willing to hover at their computer ready to pounce the minute the window opens and the skill to get through the poor response times as servers are overloaded by everyone knowing the only chance to get one is to be at the front of the line.

It's OK, I really don't need to be buying >$100 sets anyway... Too bad there isn't much really castle interesting for much less...

I'm hoping they'll include some more factions in future creator castle sets (but as you said, I'm not getting my hopes up). It'd be very easy for them to reuse collectable minifigure torsos.

I just wish the various purple and sand green minifigs in various themes were easier to get without getting one or two per big set. I miss the "battle packs" from Ninjago and other lines. I'd love to add to my "orc" army with more colors and variety...

I also occasionally see other minifigs I'd like. I'd love to have my city populated by a wider variety of characters.

And bummer, I would have actually used this castle (had I had a remote chance of ordering it and having been able to take the time to talk to my wife about it) because I'd love to have a nice Forest Men castle for my setup. It would have been a good start. Instead, at some point I'll build my own I guess, which I suppose is better anyway...

I've been dithering on the blacksmith because it's a big ticket and would really be out of scale with my setup unless I converted it to an inn or something.

I cannot recommend the blacksmith enough. If your layout is sized to the more traditional LEGO castle sizes, it will look a bit big. But it has so many wonderful pieces - I'm sure you'd have fun scaling it down if you needed.

Agreed - there so much goodness in this set. For the past 8 years a lot of us have been buying sets just to get a few that work for Castle. Here is a set that has all of it working for us. Scale it down if needed, but it’s a winner for sure.

Now it turns out the Castle in the Forest actually sold 10,000 copies on that first day.

BrickLink responded to the community’s concerns with some modifications to the program and additional opportunities for people to get in on the other sets that sold out (not the Castle, which already hit 10000). The second 5000 orders will be shipped in June 2022. I was fortunate to get 2 copies of it and believe the changes they are making going forward are appropriate.
