Post 1000 and Minas Tirith revealed

Post by Bruce N H »

Happy New Year, everyone!

This is my one thousandth post on CC.com! I'd like to thank everyone here for making this such a nice forum to post in. To mark this occasion, I'd like to finally reveal some of Minas Tirth as a CC.com exclusive.

Image

This isn't linked anywhere on my site yet, and probably won't be until I've done all of the major Minas Tirth locations and finish the relevant chapters. I've still got to build and photograph the main throne room and the tombs, plus a couple of minor sets, so it will still be a couple of months before I post the chapters, but in the meantime, PLMKWYT.

wow, thats a lot of detail. the walls are boring, as they are just big chunks of grey, but the houses... and the roads... you have to many peices. let me help you with that problem ;)

Congrats on your 1000th post! I just reached that post count a month or so ago.

Wow. I really really like all the details in the town. Great stuff. I really like the tree. I also liek the houses of healling, just as I pictured them from the books. :D

Congratulations on reaching the 1000!

And what better way to celebrate? That's a real nice MOC with great detail. Good job!

How did you do the gates by the way?

Bruce - you're undertaking a massive project - so far, it looks good. The walls alone will be a massive burden on the grey bricks. Do you have those bricks available? If not, they are going fast ...

Very impressive so far.

OMG that is very good. I like the streets of Minas Tirith and the Houses of Healing, the tower of Etchelion wasn't that beautiful but hey all the rest is pretty good.

Very nice, Bruce! And congrats on reaching a thousand posts. Your Minas Tirith is quite cool. Here are my thoughts, for what they are worth:

City Gates:
Wow! The first word that comes to mind is "intimidating." I don't think the walls are boring. They are massive. Just how the walls should be. The gate itself is nice, but I would like to see a pic with the gates shut in order to see how it looks then. I am sure that will be forthcoming when it is all finished. The tudor style houses built into the wall are a very nice. I wouldn't have thought of those.

City Streets:
What a plethora of houses! A lot of cool details here. Just a couple of my favorites include: the fountain, the chain fence around the cart, the tudor house with the SNOT walls and blue roof, and the grey house in the 3rd and 7th pics. The behind the scenes shots are cool too. Nice to know how you were doing that. But you really shouldn't allow the foreigners back there. :)

Houses of Healing:
Again, quite cool. Very peaceful and elegant exterior. Looks like a good place to lie down under a tree and take a nap. And the stairs going up onto the walls are huge! The interior is very much in keeping with the exterior. Great details, as well. The bed is a neat design, and I like the curtains. But the kicker is the wooden floor. I am still trying to figure out exactly how that was done! I didn't notice it at first. But then it jumped out at me. Those tiles are at a forty-five degree angle to the rest of the room! Very very cool.

Tower of Ecthelion:
First thought: that is tall! I like the radar dish thing over the front door. I haven't seen that used like that before. The only thing I am not sure that I like is how you used the two inverted slopes over the windows instead of the 1x4 arches. From a distance is looks very good, but up close I don't really like that. The tree looks good. And the pool is just how I imagine it.

Overall, Bruce, this is all on par with your other creations. Great job! I can't wait to see it all finished!

Build On,
Josh

Great Work Bruce! The streets are florishing with detail, and I, for one, Love it. This is a great recreation, and one of the best I've seen, of Minath Tirth. The only small problem I have is, if you are trying to recrate from the movies, Isn't the tree in the middle of the pond, and the path goes around both sides?
I do love this though. Keep up the great work

As I recall, he isn't trying to recreate from the movies. If my hazy memory serves, his Lord of the Rings creations predate the release of the first movie.

Great job on Minas Tirith! I love the walls, the gate, and the tower. The houses of healing look great with their light blue trim/roof, and the shops and houses that line the city look quite impressive as well.

I don't know that I like the look of so much colour in the houses, considering that Minas Tirith is supposed to be primarily made of stone, but I appreciate that it is more pleasing on the eye this way, and that there is probably a pieceage issue.

Another colour quibble is the choice of DM-coloured figs as the Gondorian soldiers. Even in the books it states that black is the primary colour of the Gondorian livery. However, I have to admit that I am impressed at the fact that thus far you have refrained from using any customised pieces. Still, I would probably have used the black torso with breastplate printing, or else the KK1 grey-and-black torsos with black legs either way to create my soldiers. Still, that is just a quibble, and not really related to the MOC of the city.

All in all, a great job.

Wow, those are nice mocs. If this was done before the movies you have done very very well creating all this with the books as your only source or description!
Wish I had bricks to do mocs of that size.

Movies? What movies? Has some poor, ill advised, fool attempted to translate Tolkien's masterpiece onto film? Shame on him!*

Bruce: Wow! this was certainly worth the 351 day wait....I love it, the massive walls, the gate(Josh is right though, we need a pic with it shut, please?), the steps by The Houses of Healing leading up to the wall, all in all very cool.

TTBK

*For the record, do like the movies, in parts, especially the score. *hums Gondor Theme*

I just love this Minas Tirith, Bruce. The architecture looks very nice and the scenery around the Houses of Healing is great. The Citadel is my favorite with the Tower and the Tree. Keep up the good work!

Very nicely done. The streets are just teeming with life and hustle and bustle of city life. The gate is beautiful and imposing, no intricate detail is needed, it serves its purpose of towering over anything and also the busy travel of soldiers and citizens
Dreams are only unrealized realities.
