I was getting an idea of making the historical battle of Thermopylae, but there are some things I could use help on. Most of you probably know more about this battle than I do. Would you please show me some pictures, links, background info on this. Any kind of help, tips, and suggestions related to Thermopylae would be most helpful.

I can imagine I have enough bricks to make the scenery for the battle. The only issue might be the minifigs....

Oh and does anybody know what lego parts would make the best Spartan (Greek) minifigs? As for the Persian infantry I am using the common Luke Skywalker outfit with the black long hair for headgear, being armed with a broadsword.

You may try Redbean's items for the Greeks, but if you really don't want to buy stuff, try the standart dragon masters' helmets (which are used later on in the Bulls' sets.) You may paint them to a bronzish color and the result may be satisfying. As for the armor, grab a NHL set with the new armors, paint them and use them, but if you don't have the money, try the samurai armor. I hope this helps a little bit.

I am really looking forward to what you come up with. I would recommend reading "Gates of Fire" by Steven Pressfield (one of my favorite books) if you want a great narrative (very well researched fiction) about the battle.

Alright I see. Only thing is I only have a sufficient supply of triangle and Ovioid shields which may be a problem. That picture is nice and clear, thanks.

That may be a good idea since I have only heard references to the battle itself. I saw a program in the history channel a while ago and it gave me an idea of somewhat how the battle took place, troop positions, movement, etc.

No, just use the Luke Skywalker bodies, change the heads into whatever you think looks Persian. I recommend using a "diamond shield" they're much cheaper than the shields you buy. Just take a 4L lightsabre bar and 2 triangular road signs. This will make a diamond shaped shield and it should make it look like the wicker shields that many of the Persian Immortals used.

As far as Persian headgear, I recommend using the following:

3 - rag hat http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=x70

Greeks are a bit of a problem. If you want a really historical look its best to use the Customs. This will be good as there are not that many Greeks in the actual battle nor in your scene.

A good resource would be the movie called:
The 300 Spartans

I see...Well I got the Lukes (Persians) ready. Now I need to get the Spartans ready. As many say its best to customize these, so thats what I will do. Most will have spray painted gold dragon helmets, armed with a spear and shield. I might purchase a few greeks from Red Bean Studios to serve as officers
