What would you like to see in a new Castle line?

Post by DanDanLegoman »

With rumors of a new Castle line next year, this is a good time to fantasize. I'm not getting my hopes up, but it's fun to think about how cool it could be.

The obvious stuff I hope to see:

* More grey and black. I don't want to see any other colors unless they are reserved for flags or rooftops. No fruity colors for minifigs, either.

* Printed chest pieces, especially for armor.

* Less Technic and Bionicle elements. Fewer big, prefab pieces

* No more zwords! I like the old ones better.

Less obvious stuff:

* A return of all the old minifig hats that came before KK2. Mainly, the old helmets (everything from the original pointy ones to the Spanish full-brimmed helmets) and feathers (the knights in this year's sets don't have them! WTF?). Any helmet that was made especially for KK2 is pretty much out.

* Modular walls so you can lock your sets together and make big castles (like the older sets).

And the really unlikely stuff:

* I'd really like all the old headgear utilized, too. Hairpieces, peasant hoods, all the (pre-KK2) helmets, feathered caps, bandanas, girl cone-hats, witch and wizard hats...everything!

* More civilian minifigs and sets. I want inns, taverns, shops, farmhouses, et cetera.

* I wouldn't mind an "exotic" set here and there to take advantage of pieces from the Vikings, Ninjas, and Adventures lines. Japan is pretty far from medieval Europe, but exploring knights could conceivable bump into Vikings, Turks, Arabs, or Mongolians.

What about you?

Hi Dan,

This thread is a good idea but it belongs in the Dear LEGO forum. I will move the thread there. The LEGO Castle forum is for discussion of produced LEGO Castle sets. Thanks.

I agree with everything you've said. In addition I'd like to see some new animal pieces. Specifically, cows, pigs, bears and deer would be very nice.

I woudln't exactly ask for cows, then it would look like some FisherPrice element.

I would just ask for some good, clean, realistic walls that consist of more then one chunk, I want them built the ways they where built before I was born.

I don't want to have to pay for a big set because it's the only one with a piece I want.

I don't want them to be so stingy about weapon amounts and men.

I would want some good torsos that you could actually use for a realistic soldier setting.

I also would like them to at least resemble a castle, not some halved-out/demolished/ruined building that doesn't even look like a holdable structure.
I ow it to wunztwice for directing me here.

I agree with everyone here so far. More animal pieces would be great, my suggestion- Wild Boar!
There are lots of suggestions I have, most of which that have been said by you guys already.

Bringing back the old short swords would be great, I think that if they do bring them back there should do the shiny type, rather the other kind. (There really are two different kinds I think.)

We need Lego Ladies in sets, they got left out in KK2. (Though I don't blame them for avoiding the rainbow knights. )

Village sets would be great, I would love to see Inns, Taverns, Farms, and Town houses. Don't forget to add the women and children to those. :)

Definately need to bring back full structures with basic bricks, the see-through Preformed buildings just don't cut it.
Small sets are also in my favor, I think there should at least be one or two small $3-$7 sets. They are great for army building and plus kids can actually afford them.

Some new, practical factions, I really like the style of the old ones, and if they could do something in that line of design/style, that would be great!

I have to agree with everything that has already been stated in this tread.

Hmm...I think I remember reading another tread really similar to this in the past.

Thanks,

I agree with the need for LEGO ladies, but can they be some peasants and other such torsos other than the extreme low cut top? I mean think about it, what is the percentage of people that were peasants verses not?

I agree completely.
There just aren't enough torso designs for castle ladies. All I recall is the low-cut top and the simple white top with a bead necklace.

No prefab walls, LURPS or BURPS that would solve just about everything imo. & a more historical take on the Castle line would be refreshing :)

I would like to see more sets that have to do with Medieval life, instead of just fighting. Soldiering is good, but it should be a part, not the whole.

New armor, a new style of armor. Or maybe bring back some kind of hybrid style of armor? Mixing the Euro-Armor hip guards with the Asian-Armor shoulder guards.

Perhaps a Lego version of the Great Helm or yet another new type of helmet. Maybe even a new helmet-visor combo or a return to the older version.

For a new castle I would like to see:

1) less prefab walls and more grey (well i guess its bley now) bricks!

2) barding and euro armour on a dark grey/grey/black/chrome knight!

3) some medieval town sets, not just castle/keeps etc... armoury, blacksmith and inns (like 6041, 6040 and 6067... ) would be nice

4) the return of minifig packs as army builders (sigh.. i wish i knew what they were for when I was a kid!)

5) make modular sets so they can be both stand-alone as well as a modular town/castle etc

6) return of short swords please... i think that's the best castle weapon so far produced by lego (and black ones please :))

7) not really castle related, but more complete rooftile packs! the current ones available from the lego store doesn't seem to be able to build a roof, or at least a roof that needs some double convex/double concave parts

Maybe an Amazon realm, which the women established when King Matthias' men suddenly went crazy painting their armour. :D
