The BloodVaine Epic

Chapter 37: The Classics Crippled

It was a fine day in the capitol city. The clouds were non existent and the sun glinted off of the golden walls of the kings palace. It was also a fine a day because Jos the bread maker had managed to get an audience with the king. It was about his new invention. A new jam using dragon berries. Jos had gotten the idea when he was trying to think of something to with all the dragon berry jam that Thenais hadn't picked up. He couldn’t sell it. No body liked dragon berries or dragon berry jam. They did have an odd taste. And a bad after taste. And an even worse after after taste.
But they had to be good for something. And without any way to get rid of the stuff, Jos had to get creative. He found upon further testing that the berries had a sharp zip that you might just like if you could ignore all the other tastes. After Jos figured this out it was only a matter of figuring out what would counter-act the bad tastes leaving only the previously unnoticed zip. It had taken him weeks of experimentation but Jos finally perfected it. It was primarily dragon and raspberry, but the recipe also included strawberries, gooseberries, blackberries and even a little bit of wolf berries, special ordered from ninja land.
When Jos first put it up for sale it didn’t do that well. People didn’t want to try something new. But as word got around more and more people came by for some of the new jam. Everyone wanted to know what he had used to make the stuff but Jos would only laugh and say that if they knew, they wouldn't buy it anymore. Eventually word got around to the king and Jos was summoned before him.
Jos was flattered of course. Flattered and flustered. He spent the entire morning preparing the jam. It had to be just perfect for the king.
Now it was time. He was at the castle waiting outside the very door of the king’s reception room. Nervously, anxiously, he awaited the opening of the doors. This was his moment of triumph when he would rise above his station and become wealthy and famous. But he was wrong. For when the doors opened and he strode through, jar in hand, an out of control messenger rushed passed him and knocked the jam out of his grasp.
“Nooooooooooooooo!” Jos cried. But it was too late. The jar shattered as it hit the floor. Jos glowered at the messenger but no one noticed.
“Forgive me your majesty,” the messenger said, kneeling. “but I come with urgent news. Our allies, the Royal Knights . They are under attack!”
The Classic Emperor sat up sharply.
       “Explain!” he snapped.
The messenger babbled on, “Majesty, it happened very suddenly-like, the Royals, like ourselves, were distracted by the giant wildfire that ravaged the Forestdweller Factions and were caught completely off guard when the Black Falcons attacked.”
The Classic Emperor’s eyes widened. “The Black Falcons?? Why the tyco are they invading the Royals in this time of need?”
“I do not know sir, but there have been several reports stating a gigantic dragon is leading the army!”
“The Black Falcons are being aided by the Dragon Masters?? That’d be a first!”
       The messenger shook his head.
“Your majesty, the Dragon Masters have no part in the attack, for they have their own troubles...it seems some Del Grakken fellow has overthrown Lord Void!”
The Classic Emperor shook his head sadly, “Dametreos is falling apart...Forestmen, Wolfpack and Dark Forest has been destroyed by fire, the Fright Knights, Knight’s Kingdom and Eastern Knight’s Kingdom have been crippled by that buildit snowstorm, the Dragon Masters are squabbling among themselves, the Crusaders have been attacked several times by rouge dragons, and now the Black Falcons are attacking the Royals!”
“What do you plan to do, your majesty?”
“We must go to the aid of our allies. Prepare my invincible army. The cavaliers will crush any army that apposes them.”
“I beg to differ your majesty.” said a hooded man in the corner of the room, “You see, I believe that the war with the Royal Knights is only a distraction. Not to you of course, but to them. With the Black Falcons attacking from the north, the Royal Knights will not be able to answer your cries for help. Why, they probably won’t even notice when the Dragon Masters attack here.”
“What?” said the Emperor furiously. “How do you know this and by what authority do you say these things?”
The man ignored the questions. “Even now your stables are burning. Your barracks are ashen. What is left of your army is reforming in the walls of this castle. They are attempting to put a dent in the great Eroth Gamus.”
“You speak blasphemy!” the Emperor shouted, “Men, seize him!"
“We have fought Dragon Masters before.” the Emperor stated boldly. “We know how to defeat them! What’s more, they are not attacking now! Have I not ears? Would I not hear the rage of battle if you what you spoke was true? Now guards, take him to the dungeons!”
“Wait!” said the man. “One more word. You disbelieve me because you do not hear. But I tell you now that this room is under a spell. The doors have been locked. The air has been stilled, that you would not know of the battle. Y ou ask how I know these plans. I know them because they are mine. Now, see for yourself the destruction of your city!”
The floor shook beneath them as a large chunk of the side of the wall was ripped off. A dragon had done it. A large dragon.
But it was not alone. Dragons were everywhere. The whole city was under siege. Arrows rained from the parapets. Ballistae twanged. Fireballs exploded. The din of the battle was enormous.
“The Eroth Gamus has come from the royal land to aid me in your defeat. And now, my sword has been long out of use and longs for the taste of blood.”
BloodVaine charged for the Classic Emperor. The Emperor was dead before he felt the blade. Soldiers rushed at the wizard but Jos didn’t. Jos did what anyone would do in such a circumstance. He ran.
Across the room there was a door. Jos ran to it and slammed it behind him.
“Oh no!” he said, “A closet!”
Jos tried to get out but something was blocking the door. He was trapped. For the next hour Jos sat there, listening to the destruction ensuing outside. It was terrible. Listening and not being able to help. Finally, when the noises ceased he tried the door again. Still blocked. But Jos began to hear things then. Voices coming from the kings chamber.
“What are our casualties Del Grakken?”
“Seven dragons are dead from ballistae bolts. Other then that we are fine.”
       “Excellent! Where is Aezazel?”
“Here my lord. I have completed your request. All resistance has been ended. The city is ours.”
“Good work, both of you. Now come, we must take council. There is much left to be done in the conquering of Dametreos.”
“You speak the truth my lord. I fear that by this act, we have drawn the attention of every faction left.”
“And I say let them come. But it is not as bad as you think. Look at this map. We have accomplished much already. The Forestdweller Factions are all but ended. Their island regions are destitute. Still recovering from the Fell War. All the mainlanders are gathered in at the Drullen Bell Keep. Only one more blow will be required to end their resistance. The Royals are almost destroyed. Once the Eroth Gamus returns to the royal war, the Black Falcons will succeed in destroying the opposition. As to their island population, they do not even know of the war. The Black Falcon fleet has kept all reports of it from reaching them. The Crusaders also are in the dark. They have no knowledge of the troubles befalling their mainland kinsmen. We shall receive no assault from them.”
“What of the Classic LEGOland island? Don’t tell me that they too are unaware of our attack.”
“They are. The Black Falcons are stopping all bad news from reaching them as well. That leaves only the Fright Knights, the Black Knights, the Ninjains, and the first and second Knights Kingdoms. Of these, only one will be trouble. The Ninjains will not be concerned with us. They will not aid other factions and will only help if they are in danger as well. The Knights Kingdoms and the Fright Knights will also be kept from action. My ice storm has taken out their mainland and island provinces.”
“But we still have to worry about the Black Knights. Right?”
“Correct, though in reality it’s not much to worry about. You will find the Black Knights easier to conquer then this kingdom. But the Black Knights will not be advancing soon and in the meantime we have work to do. The outlaying towns of this province have formed up an army. I want you to go crush them, Del Grakken. Aezazel will go with you.”
“And what will you be doing my lord?”
“Me? I will be taking a nap. A long nap.”
