The BloodVaine EpicChapter 40: A Very Brief Visit
The infirmary was full of wounded Forestmen. Although no real fighting had taken place, there were many incidents of tense Forestmen shooting each other. The fire had also injured many careless workers. Green Fox lay beside a Forestman with bandages all the way up his arm and round his feet. Blackened skin was visible under the gaps in the bandages. Green Fox winced and looked in the other direction. There, there was a Forestman with an eye missing. He stared at Green Fox and moaned. Green Fox winced again and looked up at the roof. The roof seemed free of mutilation, so he looked at that. Unknown to him, Bjarn was touring the infirmary at this time. He strode slowly through the rows of beds, stopping at every patient and offering words of appeal. His mind was elsewhere, though. He was horrified by all the destruction around him. But the Forestmen were cheered by his words, so he continued.
Green Fox noticed Bjarn when he was only two beds away, and he quickly pulled the bed sheets over his head. Bjarn strode over to Green Fox and knelt down beside him.
“Hello. And what is your name? Let me see you.”
He pulled off the sheet. They stared at each other for a second. Then, Bjarn grabbed Green Fox by the collar and pulled him right up to his face.
He whispered loudly, “Look, I don’t know how you got here. Frankly, I don’t care. But what I do know is that you have no right to lie here with these war heroes. You did megablockin’ nothing to help. I should kill you right now, in fact, you lying, cheating clownboat.”
Bjarn called a doctor over.
“Doctor, this man has made a full recovery and has expressed his wishes to be taken to what is left of the eastern border and dumped there without his belongings.”
The doctor looked at him in a puzzled manner, but was set straight by Bjarn’s icy stare.
“Y...yes. At once, sir.”
Green Fox was hurled to the ground by two burly guards. He was dressed back in his peasant clothes, and was without a weapon. As he struggled to his feet, the guards hit him with their spear butts. When he had been sufficiently hurt, they walked off. Green Fox picked up a thick branch and shouldered it, and as he walked away from the remains of the forest, he whistled.
A dragon flew over Drullen Bell Keep and all the Forestmen readied their bows and spears.
“It seems they have forgotten their allies…” King Sirion said to the dragon.
All the Forestmen gathered in a circle on top of Drullen Bell and they pulled their bows back, ready to fire at the dragon.
“Forrestdwellers!” cried Sirion, “I have come to speak with your king! Beleriand my dragon, shall not harm you! Lay down your bows and let me land!”
“Get lord Bjarn!” one of the forest men yelled out to another.
“Beleriand, let me get off.” commanded Sirion.
“Yes my lord.” Beleriand replied in a low voice.
The dragon flew low and let Sirion climb off of him. At that moment Bjarn walked out of a door leading to the top of Drullen Bell Keep.
Bjarn eyed the dragon with wary dislike, but he recognized the Black Knight shield the dragon rider held and he relaxed. A bit. The Black Knights were not exactly allies of the Forestmen, but they weren't enemies either. Besides, he knew the Black Knights secretly supported the Bulls, and so Bjarn reasoned they couldn't be all that bad.
“Greetings, stranger of the Black Knights. Why do you seek out the Forestmen?” Bjarn asked curtly. Out of the corner of his eye he could see armed Forestmen and Dark Foresters slowly surrounding the man and dragon, prepared to battle if violence erupted.
The Black Knight removed his helmet with a flourish and stated grandly, “I am King Sirion of the Black Knights, Lord Bjarn!”
Bjarn bowed slightly.
“And why do thee honor us with such a visit?” he asked.
“The Black Knights have seen the destruction wrought upon you and your allies the Wolfpack and Dark Forest, and we wish to assist. Even as we speak, carts laden with food, medical supplies and other items are heading northward thought Classic LEGO.”
Bjarn bowed again. “Thank you, King Sirion. I am glad you consider us an ally. I understand now why Lord Barbod of the Bulls spoke so highly of the Black Knights.”
King Sirion looked a little taken aback, but he recovered quickly.
“I see we have much to discuss, Lord Bjarn…”
The dragon interrupted, causing the Forestmen to jump.
“Sirion, I sense trouble. Much trouble....Classic LEGO has been invaded by the Black Falcons and Dragon Masters...I believe our supply carts have been overrun…”
“What??” Sirion cried. He leaped upon his mount and they flew upward. Before they disappeared King Sirion called back to Bjarn, “We will speak again!”
Bjarn turned to Sir Dractor, Gerald Vos, Willem Blackcloak and Graygon.
“Well...that...was interesting…” he said.
Willem shook his head. “That’s not the worst of it, Wolfpack spies report that the Royals have been overrun by the Black Falcons and all the Fright Knight, Knight’s Kingdom and Eastern Knight’s Kingdom territories are under fifteen feet of snow. The storm was formed over Kingdom Isle and moved northwest until it decimated the mainland territories. Reports state over five thousand are confirmed dead, and many structures have been destroyed. Barleyburg has been blanketed and Wraith Cove barely thawed.”
“Is there any chance this freak storm could his us?” snapped Bjarn.
“No,” said Sir Dractor, “The storm is already weakening. It will be nothing but a rainstorm soon.”
“Great...fires, snow, ice, war, and now the potential of floods. The only thing that hasn’t happened so far is an earthquake. Or a tornado.” said Graygon.
“Don’t give BloodVaine ideas!” snapped Bjarn.
