The BloodVaine Epic

Chapter 46: In The Dungeons

Del Grakken surveyed his domain. He was pleased. He was now the King of the Dragon Masters, and he had BloodVaine as an ally. BloodVaine would not fail, and Dametreos would be reformed, back to the good old days, where there was one all-powerful king and several less powerful lords who would control the pitiful populace.

For the next hour and a half, the dungeon of the Fire Breathing Fortress was a buzz with teleharms. News was gathered, exchanged and sent out again. Information passed through the dungeon like water though a mill.
But it was all interrupted when Del Grakken returned.
“Men!” he said, drawing the attention of everyone in the dungeon. “I have come to release you!"
The Dragon Masters were silent, but inwardly they were fuming. Many of their friends had fallen in the fortresses defense and when the news reached them that Del Grakken was responsible, they were furious. Del Grakken didn’t know they knew this however and continued in his lies.
“The fortress has been taken by a man named Dacker. An agent of a wizard named BloodVaine. This same wizard has, sadly, killed Lord Void. Since the time of the attack I have been negotiating for your release. Now, finally, I have succeeded. BloodVaine’s only grudge against us was in our leader, Lord Void. Now that he is gone, we have been offered an alliance. Our allegiance for our freedom. I have excepted this offer. We all served Lord Void loyally. I hope that you will continue in that loyalty under my leadership.”
The prisoners couldn’t take it after that. Hearing Del Grakken’s lies and knowing the truth was too much for them. They charged the man. Del Grakken wouldn’t have stood a chance if it wasn’t for his dragon. Kirfang was already razing a fire breath in his lungs. Who knows how many men would have died if Caimlin hadn’t stopped them.
       “STOP!” he yelled.
The men stopped but Caimlin kept shouting.
“How dare you Del Grakken! You speak of loyalty yet you betray us! Do you think we are blind? We know why you commanded that ‘day of training’! You knew that we would be caught outside the fortress! You knew that we would be slaughtered by our own dragons! And you knew that when we retreated we would be locked out! How dare you come in now and say that you were negotiating! How dare you say that Lord Void is dead! You usurper! As if I hadn’t spoken to Lord Void myself not two hours ago! You will never have our loyalty!"
       Caimlin spat.
Del Grakken looked down at Caimlin. “Watch yourself Caimlin. Those who show disrespect will soon lose their usefulness.”
       Del Grakken turned and left.
“So Lord Void is alive eh? BloodVaine will hear of this!”
As soon as Del Grakken left, Caimlin returned to the teleharms. Lord Void would find this interesting. But when Caimlin tried to connect with Lord Void, he found himself faced with a familiar sight.
Bright blue eyes on a pale face.
Caimlin fell to the floor in pain. BloodVaine was awake!
