Re: How do you organize your army?

That's a pretty consistent organization plan. I would use the word "platoon" vice troop... but that's simply a moderization of the concept about 150 years. Fun fact both platoon and troop are old concepts, both were used in the first third of the 17th century, and perhaps earlier. A plato...

Playing around with the Medieval Market Village

Gah I’m having massive camera problems! Sorry it’s a bit out of focus. Just playing around with my new Market Village (or my 2 new market villages). The blacksmith shop is pretty much built following directions, as are the trees. The wagon however is my own design. It will be tweaked a bit, widened ...

Re: Dunelm's Draenog

Awesome little army you have there! I love this time in history, and it's great to see this as not much is built in this period. Really looking forward to seeing a fortified manor for these guys! One question, what is the red torso from? It's from the collectible garden gnome figure, please ...

Re: Greatest Medieval Civilization?

the Dutch can't be a great kingdom, they had to drain the sea to even get any land They didn't have a king until 1815 either :-P Famous French proverb: God created the Earth except Holland, because that was created by the Dutchmen. In fact it was only the western half of the Netherlands which had t...

Re: Greatest Medieval Civilization?

and unlike the spanish we didin't try to kill them. tell that to the Moors, Africans and Jews that were forcibly emigrated to Brazil and the Azors. (please don't take that as an attack on the Portuguese, pretty much every country has a history of atrocity) the Dutch can't be a great kingdom, they h...

Dunelm's Draenog

The beginning of my Royalist Army. I'm working on getting some bricks together to build a fortified manor, and eventually a parliamentarian unit of lancers to do battle with. Draenog is Welsh for hedgehog, I thought it was a fitting nick-name for a unit of pike and shot. Dunelm also commands a squad...

Re: Archers in Front or Behind?

The Mongolians had success because they had the Recurve bow, but that wasn't really a European thing. [/quote Also, archers are fairly cheap to train and maintain; As to no re-curve bows and no horse-archers, you'll have to tell the Hungarians, Poles, Finns and Turks they are doing it wrong... Also...

#1 the flaming pig when the romans were faced with a formation they would slather a pig in tar and light it on fire then send it into the enemy ranks thusly splitting the formation. then the cavalry would go finish them off Invented by the Cisalpine Celts against the Romans. Re: Greatest Medieval Civilization?

As a confirmed Anglo-phile I need to agree that England was a backwater until the 17th century.
