More 2007 Star Wars

Here is the thread at fbtb:

The hoth base isn't what I was hoping for. Did we really need a third snowspeeder?

The cruiser looks nice. Big too. Not sure I'll snag it, since I'm pretty much over Star Wars...

The cruiser looks alright, but I don't think the shape is very true to the original. But then this is to be expected in a set with minifigures.

-Smeagol, who is not over SW but probably won't be buying any more SW sets unless something really impressive comes out.

Gah, another X-Wing! How many are there going to be by the end of the line?

Although I haven't bought any SW sets since they went to fleshies, I like the new Hoth playset and the cruiser. Designing a minifig compatable Republic cruiser must have been diffcult (like the Imperial Star Destroyer) since they obviously can't design it to be proportional to minifig scale without it being uneconomically huge. I really like the playset though, despite the reused snowspeeder, because it's a direction lego hasn't entirely explored with the SW line. It is true that they did do Jabba's palace playsets (not to mention Cloud City, but that was a S@H exclusive) and some various smaller sets of this kind over the years, but Lego's focus seems to have been more on the ships and vehicles rather than locations. As a result, certain aspects of the films have been underrepresented, especially rebel personel other than pilots (rebel fleet troopers anyone? Who is supposed to fight against the storm troopers?). I for one, would love to see a Yavin Base playset, though it would hopefully be larger than the hoth set.

In truth I thought the hoth base would be bigger, but it seems to still be fun.

The Hoth base is severely underscale, and looks awful, but despite that there is some nice interesting pieces there, so definintely a set for bricks rather than display.

Is this all the 2007 SW sets were going to be getting this year (along with the previously announced)?

Another Snowspeeder? They could've used the parts to expand the base which is extremely weak IMHO.

Look at the prices at Bricklink and Ebay for 4500 - it is ridiculous what they want for it.
With the re-release you have a chance to get one for a reasonable price and with some nice extras like Snowies, flesh Hoth Rebels, a little base and all that.

IMO i love the hoth base. i'll buy it just for the figs and the snowspeeder, if nothing else (actually there is nothing else!) snowspeeders are harder to MOC than the base itself, IMO :)
