It sounds like fun, but reading all of what there is in the roleplay thread would give me a headache, so if not, I just won't bother.
Sorry, especially if this has already been addressed...
And yes, you create a character with the character template that's somewhere in this thread and then just start writing their story, whether they're by themselves or with other peoples' characters (in which cases you both take turns writing it in separate posts).
Continuity within the story is an issue that we try to keep clean, so when you make your character(s) try to stick with what has already been written before. Think of LOTR - Faramir was created after Boromir's story was written and yet he still fits in fine.
Finally...yes, it is sometimes tedious to read through all these posts. However, I am working on a timeline and one of these days I'll post it for easy reference.
