[shameless bragging]
He he he -
for the last year all I have done is hit garage sales, thrift stores, and discount stores.. and while my lego has been put up, it has grown and grown. and now I have about a couple hundred pounds worth of sorting to do... and then I think I will finally open up a bricklink store, because really, I dont need all that town/classic space/pirate stuff.
I only wanted certain parts.

My Mom and I go to garage sales pretty much every weekend, (Except in the seasons where there are none.) I have run into a couple good deals so far.

First thing I bought at one that got me hooked on going was the big KK1 castle, it was nearly complete and cost me just 1$. The sad thing about that sale was that we couldn't find the place for a long time, and when we got there they said that they had tons of Harry Potter stuff, ect..

Second thing was a big Soccer set that was missing a couple bricks, I got that for 5$, which was a steal since it had tons of minifigs in it.

Third, I just got like two days ago at a sale was a Star Wars set. (6205) This was a good one- 50 cents for a brand-new, sealed set.

Garage sales are just starting back up around here, and I can't wait start going again. 8)

I got the big hook-up at a local resale shop. They hold all their Lego for me. I got a complete Ogel's Ice Fortress for $8 never been opned plus 50-75 pounds of various Lego along with about 50 minifigs so far. I've also got a lady at church who's a garage sale freak looking.

2 weeks ago she got a huge collection of megablocks, some big fire/ice fortress and a bunch of lego including almost Complete Droid Battlepacks for $30. (My kid took the megablocks).

AND now the youth group at my church has found out about my Lego addiction and are talking about parting with theirs for cash. I'm supposed to get a Lego Star Wars Collection wednesday ( Wooohoo  )

So hit the resale shops and garage sales you regret it if you don't.

My brother-in-law (sister's boyfriend) turned up tonight with a 6090 box. his parents are clearing underneath his bed, and about to throw it out he saved it for me.

The set is far from complete, but there's some nice pieces including shields, tower panels and the raised baseplate itself. The box itself is stunning, it reminds me just how good Castle Lego used to be.

There are deals out there, but you need to be diligent. I can't look that much any longer, though the occasional find does still happen. I found Lego gets mixed up with clones brands and other cheap junk.

An interesting thread to keep going might be where we come in and talk about any big/cool/bargain that one of us gets somewhere.

Ah, but that's the thing, you should be asking people that did like Lego previously, people who had it in their childhood.

I've gotten a lot of my Lego from people who'll openly admit they're too old for it, but certainly, still have boxes of it in their attic from when they were younger. If all else fails put a Wanted notice up in the nearby store or something, but really just ask anyone you can to see.

There's no harm in trying.

ya know, I think after I get settled in I may post an ad in the local paper - "I'll buy your used Lego (no megablocks)" with a phone number. I have often wondered what sort of response that would get.
If anyone else tries that let me know how it works out.. and If I do in the coming months I'll do the same.

Hey Freak,

Try posting on Craig's list. That might get you more responses as well and it's free.

Last summer I scored several hits, although none were that big. I go out garage sale cruiser ever Saterday with my Dad, and while Legos are getting harder to find, I still get an occasional hit. The best I ever found was two or three years back. I found a huge green tub, completely full, for 7 dollars. Multiple pounds of ABS.

Well, one kid in my church youth group came through big time for me last night. I got.....

The 1st Millenium Falcon with only the Luke and Chewie figs and some minimal parts missing.
Geonosian Fighter still mint in the box.
4 Ep 2 clone troopers
2 Sand Red Battledroids
2 Metallic Blue larger battledroids
Qui Gon Jin
2 Stormtroopers
Soccer field stadium thing complete.

The best part is he couldn't name a price, so i said i 'd take'em home and go through them later and come up with a price (no it won't be "free") :D
Any ideas on what how much I should give him?

I've looked at a lot but I never found anything :( Theres a huge neighborhood garage sale in my neighborhood every year in the end of May. Unfortunately I'm probably the only lego fan in my neighborhood so I never find anything there either. :(
