Hello all,

I am a 29years old italian, but living in Belgium. I've always been crazy about LEGO but i am almost a beginner in this "internet age".

Since i cannot orientate myself in the amount of websites and everything around, and since I have a lot of LEGO, I would like to ask youwhat is the best way to build a good and flexible database of all the parts I have.

And what I would like to do is, after having my database, make the database itself checking if I can build another set with my parts.

I don't know if that is better with an online website or with an offline utility, so I'm open to all your advices.

I'm posting here because I think that my favourite LEGO have always been Castle ones.

I take the opportunity also to ask you if there is a section of your site in which I can find "construction advices" for castles, since, as I said, I am a newbie.

I am not sure what you are looking for exactly but I will give you some sites that are were very helpful to me when I started.

Brickset Lets you check all of the sets new or old.

Bricklink Lets you see all the parts from all of the sets new or old (I think this may be the database you are referring to)

Peeron Very similar to bricklink but you can't purchase anything on that site.

Go to www.peeron.com and create an account / login (it's totally free). When you are logged in, you can create an inventory of all of the Lego that you have, whether it is official sets or just bulk pieces. To view your inventory from any part of the Peeron site, click "Menu" in the upper right hand corner, then "View/Edit My Parts list" in the right hand column. You can view both the sets that you have as well as any loose parts that you have added.

Adding Sets
Once you're logged in, search for a set number that you are certain that you have. For example, search for 8877 (which is Vladek's Dark Fortress) and you will find information about the set, including a complete parts inventory. If you are certain that you still have all the parts, then click "Add Copy" in the light blue box. This will add a copy of that set to your inventory. If you have multiples of the same set, then you can hit "Add copy" again. If you are logged in, then each time you search for a set, the My Parts blue box should show you how many of each set that you have.

Adding Individual Parts
You can also add individual parts to your personal inventory. You can either search for a part number (i.e. 3004) or find a set that already has that part in it, even if it is the wrong color. Click on the individual part and Peeron will show you all of the sets that that particular part came in in each color. Up at the top, you can add any number of parts in a certain color to your personal inventory.

Trying to build another set
Once you've added some of the sets you already have, search for a set that you'd like to build. For example, search for 10179 (the new UCS Millenium Falcon). In the My Parts blue box, click "Try to Build" and Peeron will tell you exactly which parts you have, whether they are the right color or not, and if you are missing any parts.

I think this covers what you're asking for. Sometimes Peeron can be a little slow, but be patient. It's really a great resource.

It is sure that in any case it will take a long time to add all the parts...but that's life.
