Space Vikings! Armoured carrier ship

Post by Jake, of the Palace Guard »

I think this goes here... after all, Viking = castle, right? Sorry if I'm mistaken. :D

That's right, I've invented another new theme!!! And here is the first creation, a heavy armoured carrier:

Image

I've been working on my Greebling on the front.
And I thought a Nice red stripewould keep things interesting.
The back is fairly simple.
But I went all out on on the side.

Close up of the head.
The SNOTted bottom is shown here.
Finally, a Partial deconstruction shot.

That's all for now, enjoy and tell me what you think!!! :D

One little nitpick- it looks like you could use some color coordination between the grays. I know it's tough to find the right hinge piece in the right color (at least in my collection), but it would help make your ship look more cohesive.

Nice ship but Space Vikings have actually been done before:

The image above was mentioned in this thread.

I am also pretty sure I have mentioned H. Beam Piper's Space Viking (published 1963), one of my absolute favorite sci-fi books and one of the two best in Piper's Terro-Human Future History series.

I would love to see more Space Vikings! One of the only ways I can stomach the idea of the silly jellybean swords. :P

Space Vikings? Were people watching Metalocalypse, or is this just a common idea?

Aren't "space vikings" just like Klingons dressed a little differently? The ships in this thread are nice to look at and both remind me of the "Spelljammer" variant of D&D a few years back.

Personally, in my opinion, I like medieval era stuff land based and spaceships looking futuristic. Thats how Star Wars influenced me so long ago. 8)

Hmmmm….Space Vikings…I don’t think that I would ever want to run into these guys.

Either way the Armoured Carrier looks great. The greebling on the front is quite nice indeed. Keep your creations coming.

I like that Viking Space-Longship MOC.

But yes... the concept of "Space Knights" are nothing new. The Necromongers from Chronicles of Riddick and the Jaffa Warriors and the Ori Crusaders of StarGate SG1 are just a few examples of soldiers wearing medieval type armor whilst flying starships.

Well, nobody was talking about "Space Knights" but since you brought them up...

Or for those of old enough to buy alcohol, how about such classics  as these:
  • The Ice Pirates (1984) - Robert Urich does battle with the Space Templars.
Rocket Robin Hood (1966-69) - Canadian TV classic with Robin Hood in Space ships and jousting using rocket-powered robot horses.
Flash Gordon (various) - Let's not forget about some of the armoured, sword-wielding opponents in different incarnations of Flash Gordon.
Wow, looking at those dates I feel old.

=25, soon to be 26 by the 26th of Nov. 2007

I've been drinking everything from Absolut Vodkas to Zimas (A to Z). But in 1984... I was still in the Philippines watching my dad and uncles drink San Miguel beers. :P

Oh yeah, forgot about Flash Gordon... but then I never really considered that to be "spacey". I just personally regarded it as a silly fantasy film with a football player as hero.

----------

But I have my own version of "armored space men" in the Nyo-Gah, and Aedin factions.

Thank you all for your comments.

Please note that when I said I'd created my own themw, I meant exactly that, MY own theme. I'm not claiming to be the only person to ever build a "Space Viking", not by a long shot.

On that note, please try and stay on topic... :D

Look, not a big deal dude, but your original post said that you "invented another new theme" and said nothing about it being a personal first for you or that you were not actually inventing a new theme. Lots of cool ideas are "created" over and over again and I was just responding to what you actually wrote.

I am sorry if what you wrote was not really what you meant to say but don't start accusing us of missing the point when your language use clearly stated that you were claiming to have "invented another new theme".

So, back to the topic... what was the topic again... space crusaders versus galactic mongols?

Lookin good. Though I think its a bit plain and un greebled, or is that the style of the theme?
