building style...not one stud exposed...

Post by boses »

Hello again. I would like to share a form of building called NOSE, or Not One Stud Exposed. The form is simple, no studs can be exposed anywhere on a moc,

Here is a simple example of the form, my spider warrior...

Image

The entire moc is studless, and I included SNOT techniques as well.

I would like to hear what you think of the NOSE form. Thank you.

Wow! I like the spider legs. How did you make them?

As for the technique, I can see where this would be helpful, but castles are somewhat tedious to do it on.

I can see how the NOSE technique may not be easily applied to large structures, but it really shines through on smaller mocs, like starcraft and monsters...

As for the legs, I removed the legs from a minifig, and stuck hands in the socket on the inside of the legs.I then attached the hands to the torso of the spider. Thanks, I hope this helps...

Hmm, I actually really like this idea!

I might try my hand at a larger "NOSE" moc some day, but I agree with you, in that the technique would shine most of all with a tiny little ditty such as your spider warrior.

Again, very cool idea.

Impressive. It would be interesting to see this creature doing battle against valiant knights. Oh nose, look at the time, I must be going.

I've been experimenting with NOSEfor a while now and it's not easy.
But the result can be really awesome, so I plan to try a lot more of it.
As for your moc: keep up the good work!

That spider is really goodlooking! (ehm.. that sounded bad :P)

But, isn't this "NOSE" just what the rest of us have called zerostuds for years..? ;)

Wow, that is certainly thinking outside the box. Well done.

Yes, but the new term is in keeping with the theme, as in...

"Did you use SNOT, or go for the whole NOSE?"

Now that's really... um... slick.

Hmm, I might begin to get worried when we begin to have a whole slew of nasally-related acronyms. BOGEY, SLIME, HONK, CRUST, etc. etc.

Which is preceeded by 'studless' which I have always used since my beginning somewhere in 2000.

I like it

I think the NOSE technique really gives an MOC a clean finish; however, there are times when dots are helpful. For example, if I want to simulate grass or carpet (interior) I like to leave studs, but for things such as tables, building roofs etc, I like the no stud look

Bricks Only Generally Everything Yellow

Studs Limited In Minor Extremities

Half Only New (K)olours

(C)RAPP Resistant Undulating Studded Terrain

etc, etc

Alan

PS I had a successful finance committee meeting early this morning, so I'm coasting through my day.

Most Of Underlying Studs Taking All Colors Highly Eccentric

This term refers to the usage of brightly colored bricks as support for larger structures.

Bricks On Other General Elements Reversed

And the next three techniques, tried together, will lead to a fine mess...

Parts On Studs Tangentially

Not All Studs Are aLigned

Diagonally aRranged In Place

Thank you for all of your replies...I really was not trying to make a joke with the NOSE form...no hard feelings here though  I just didn't expect such a reaction. Thanks again.
