Thats what I was going to say as well. You can get some curve from the arch pieces too.

Yes, this is mainly 1x2 bricks. The outer ring diameter is 68 studs and the inner ring diameter is 42 studs. This technique really does put a lot of strain on the bricks. Using 1x1 round bricks will help make much smaller diameters as seen in mocs like John's Nottingbley castle:
