medieval tank

Post by draugaer »

In the face of orcs, trolls, undead, and evil sorcery what are the kingdoms of men to do?

send in a iron-clad, naphtha-breathing tank thats what!

Built by ingenious engineers the tank is covered in iron and angled to deflect projectiles. Its main weapon is a cannon which sprays flamming naphtha, it also mounts a crossbow on each flank.

The tank is crewed by four people, an engineer who commands the tank, a soldier to man the main cannon and crossbows, and two peasents who steer and move the tank.

Cool, the shape reminds me of a turtle shell. If there were medieval tanks I think that's what they would look like. Say, didn't DaVinci have designs for a tank like this?

draugaer,

Looks good. My only question is how the two gents can make it move... Looks pretty heavy. I think the only thing it needs are some spikes along the bottom to ride people over and keep them away and a ram.

Fun idea.

CB 100,

The closest you get to tanks in the medieval period is the Hussites and their war wagons.

And some battering rams with the covers over them. I think the war wagons are closer though.

I like the look of it. As said before, if they did have tanks, this is what they'd look like.

I like this a lot especially the interior. It would be interesting to see this redone in a brown color. Is this a design of Leonardo DaVinci's?

Not bad. It's an intriguing idea, and you pretty much nailed the shape. The flags are a nice touch.

I like the hexagonal shape of this, it's well done.

Thanks for trhe compliments. The tank was inspired by a drawing Da Vinci did: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... o_tank.JPG

If I had the right pieces I probably would have made the top part of the tank dark grey, and the bottom brown with dark grey on the edges. The black works alright I suppose, but it looses contrast and details in pictures.

An intriguing idea to be sure, but I don't think one guy could man all the weapons...seeing how far apart they are and all.

When you said that two peasants power the vehicle, the first thing that popped into my head was: "Flintstones!"

Awesome MOC!

God bless.

that "tank" would be an effective siege weapon in any battle! Good job!
Question: Why do we drive in PARKways and park in DRIVEways?

Nice tank - I noticed the Da Vinci similarity right away, especially as I was considering doing something like this for my Dwarves.

Do you mind if I borrow your idea? If it's okay, how did you attach the side pieces to each other, and to the base? It's hard to see.

Flame-throwing tank - the orcs had better watch out!

Da Vinci designed all sorts of war machines. He was after all a military engineer for much of his life. He ended up in France working for the French king for a time. I wondered what he had envisioned for its use. Likely anti cavalry and anti infantry, especially as in his day the pike block was becoming dominant.

It does look good. Need to make a scene with it crashing into its enemies. :D

Not at all :D

The side pieces are attached to a 1-stud width righ built with the old 1x2 (non snapping) plate hinges. The base is built from snoted 1 stud width beams, which attach to the side pieces.

The slanted sections are just attacked to the side pieces by those 4x4 plate hinges.

Heres a pic of the bottom which might help:
