Addictive Lego

Post by Elephant Knight »

Yeah, we all know that lego is addictive. But I want to know your opinion on what is the MOST addictive.

I (And some of my siblings) think that it is Bionicle. I started buying them whem they came out and when they were slightly cool, but now they are just hidious, But I can't help but buy some of them. It is mainly because I collect all the black Bionicles, and so I need to keep my colection up.

Anyways, what do YOU think is the most addictive Lego? And why?

Well, first I have to say ythat I completely disagree with you about the bionicles. I have only ever bought one or two when I was younger and I sold those.

I guess it really all depends on what your into though. I think army building is quite addicting. I'm not even an army builder but I want 30-50 of each Crownies, Dwarves, Skellies, Trolls, Black Falcons, and Elves (when they come out). I'm sure I will have more armies as time goes by. Like I just today decided that I wanted an army of CC figs.

I guess for me though most of my money just goes into everything you need for castles. So, I guess that I'm most addicted to building castles and buying the stuff for them.

Really though, I find almost all of LEGO addicting. Except a few things like Bionicle, Gali**r, Ja*k Sto*e, Speed Racer, Spongebob, Clickits. Well you get the point. I'm addicted to most LEGOs.

I'm most partial to Castle building because well. Frankly. It's the most epic and most superior-est of all forms of Lego© construction. I believe I speak for everybody here when I say that, and do not need to elaborate further on the subject.

And speaking of subjects, I'd be more interested to hear what about Lego's makes them so Addictive.

Perhaps it has something to do with the combination of the visual and tactile stimulation combined with the creative thought process etc etc.
Hopefully you get what I'm talking about.
Physiological reactions to Lego© and such.

I'm assuming that you mean what you can't stop doing even if you don't like it that much? Like your Bionicle example?

Well, since we are confessing here...I can't stop playing with my one stupid Galidor fig. The green, frog-looking one. He is so lame and un-Lego. I keep building these little scenes with him getting beat up by the real Lego. Lame...I'm so lame.

I buy all lego lines.. I can't help myself. Even when I say to myself I am only going to buy lego that is castle related, I end up buying the new agents line, because they are so darned cool... or if I spot a city set that is just really well built (like the garbage truck) well... you know. Technic, bionicle, bellville, whatever.. its all plastic all the time.

My name is freak.. and I am a lego addict.

(and josh - I have the Galidor robot dude.. I like to use his parts in mechs.. :D)

Star Wars LEGO is most addictive. I try and try to steer away from it. I try and try to only armybuild Castle and my own Space Marines, but somehow I always end up with an Imperial army of Stormtroopers and such. As minifigures go, they are totally useless in any other vein of creation because they are just so pre-loaded with Star Wars-ish media! Yet I have over 200 of them! And I cannot stop buying them!! AAAAAAAARRGGGGGGHHHH!!

Seriously, George Lucas must be stopped. And here comes Clone Wars...

I'm doomed.

I pray LEGO never makes official G.I. Joe & COBRA designs for the minifigure scale.

Hmm.. Interesting question.

For me, it's probably Classic minifigs. While I don't have a huge amount of them, I always have the urge to buy more of them.

And if they have something wrong with them, like scratched armor print or a broken hand, I seem to be more partial to those minifigs for some reason. They just have so much more character.. Maybe it's a sentimental thing (But it's kinda odd, since they aren't always figs I've had since I was little).

Also: Rare pieces, that never appeared in sets. I seem to have no problem forking up the dough to buy that stuff. I just eat it all up! :P

Though, even the brick itself is very addicting in it's own. Hard to pinpoint exactly what I'm so addicted to, especially when I know it's a combination of things!

Initially for me it was the Classic Castle figures and sets. I got that set at the perfect time in my life when my imagination was the best toy. My elementary school teachers used to chide me all the time about daydreaming in class. Being a kid growing up in the "golden age" of LEGO: priceless.

Now its a combination of things but the two main things are the ability to use my imagination and a way to refine my storytelling skill. I could build in Castle, Town, Space, and Pirates and would except for money and storage concerns.

Can't say that Barnicle, oops, sorry, Bionicle is addictive at all. But a Galaxy Explorer? Man, now your talking!

Ever since the Corner Cafe, I have a real problem staying away from the larger structure sets. Market Street, Green Grocer, Creator houses. To borrow a phrase from that famous Japanese kids show, "Gotta have 'em all!". So far I've held off getting the Eiffel Tower but my resistance is waning.

Ain't the the truth? For me it's the thrill of seeing the image in my mind come out in 3D. I can see it, can I build it. Then knowing I'm on the right track is very addictive.

Army building. Gradually moving from squad to garrison to war band to army is the most incredible thing, and you can never stop.
