LibertyLUG Store Bricklink Shop is having a pre-grand opening sale for Classic Castle members. Ask StoneGoblin or myself for the password. Sorry, only US buyers at the moment.

We have a lot of inventory yet to add, so if you don't see what you like, just wait a day. There will be all manner of dwarves, orcs, and other castley stuff on the store when we get to it, hopefully soon! :)

Done!

Err, by sales I meant we're opening it up for Classic Castle members exclusively, not discounting anything yet. The prices are good, though! :)

I would certainly be interested in perusing your store. I've been commissioned to build something, and I'm looking for parts. I would love to give a C-C member or two the business. I would greatly appreciate a PMed password!

Likewise, I might need some parts for the CCC6 and would rather buy them from a CCer than anyone else. :D

I'm very confused. I went back and re-read your introduction thread for this so-called LUG. I then read this thread again and I can find no evidence of the actual existence of a LUG.

It looks an awful lot like you are a business masquerading as a LEGO Users Group and this disturbs me greatly. Can you please describe what sort of activities LibertyLUG has engaged in besides this BL store?

Tedward,

The LUG itself was announced on the same day we announced the store, and there's been no intent to hide or deceive people of that fact or what its purpose is, or who owns what.

LibertyLUG is a new group, so we don't have any activities to speak of, nor do we have a website yet to show these things off. We're not your ordinary LUG because we are not geographically fixed to a single location.

The store offers perks to members, such as excellent discounts on items, and helps us fund group activities. Our members are fine with how things work between the LUG and the store, else they wouldn't have joined up.

Other Lego related groups run stores as well, such as The NERDS Shop™ (New England Robotics DesignerS), which is a Lego youth robotics team.

As its founder, I see no problem with deciding how it operates, including the notion that we make a profit through a store associated by name. If Stone Goblin or my reputation falls into disrepute, this strongly affects the integrity of the group, so there is a strong incentive to operate ethically. I appreciate your concern.

There is one crucial difference which you are choosing to ignore. These other groups were groups first and they have a purpose and a history of activities outside of the business activities. These business activities support the real purpose of the club. Profit is not the main purpose of these organizations.
As its founder, I see no problem with deciding how it operates, including the notion that we make a profit through a store associated by name.
So you admit that the purpose of this so-called "LUG" is a private profit-making enterprise?

I am sorry if I am being harsh but if the only purpose of LibertyLUG is to make a profit it is not really a LUG. Doing business under the aegis of a club is deceitful. If it is not really a LUG the use of the LUG acronym could be considered fraud. Such abuse of the concept of a LUG could do irreparable harm to the relationship that real LUGs have with TLC and our local communities.

If your reputation really concerns you I suggest you either stop masquerading as a LUG (by calling yourselves LibertyCorp or LibertyCom or some other name) or you can create an entirely separate BL store that is not formally connected to the LUG. Continued use of the acronym LUG to obscure the private, commercial nature of your enterprise could be considered very offensive to members of actual LUGs.

Liberty, truth, probity, honor, are declared to be the four cardinal principles of society."
--Thomas Jefferson to Pierre Samuel Dupont de Nemours, 1816.
You might have liberty but clearly the other three are in jeopardy here.
