SDCC 2009: Prince of Persia and Toy Story

Post by plums_deify »

As promised, LEGO has previews of the new lines at San Diego Comic-Con--and Joe Meno has teaser pics up already:

CAMEL!
OSTRICH!
Buzz and Woody!

Keep an eye on Joe Meno's flickr stream over the next couple of days.

Camel and an ostrich. I must say the PoP line has already surpassed my expectations. Those arabian (or perhaps Persian) guys look really good too.

Woody looks interesting, maybe a new cowboy hat style?

I love all these new animals, minifigs and accessories! Unbelievable how many new pieces they have made for this line. I can't wait to see the sets, i hope they'll be designed well.

Between these and Indiana Jones, we've gotten a lot of mid-east elements. I'd love to see where people go with these.

Loving the green soldiers from Toy Story as well.

These licensed lines sure look to have good figures, accessories, and animals. Hopefully the sets will also be well designed and contain a good selection of brick.

2 new head pieces, dark tan turbans! Wonder if we will get some new PoP inspired weapons. I really, really hope Lego doesn't use the troll scimitar for the PoP line.

Other than the fleshies, I'm really looking forward to this line. The figures look fantastic, and as it seems like the Fantasy line has run it's course this line looks like it's going to give me something to purchase in 2010.

I had high hopes for the Persia figs, and LEGO easily met those expectations then decided to add a few extra dashes of awesome to top it off:

- Spectacular update to the headwrap
- Some truly nice torso and leg designs
- Camel and Ostrich

As for Toy Story, not as much usable there for more general building as far as I can tell, but then the green army men have me truly intrigued. If those figs are build rather than a solid piece (and if we're talking System, I'm willing to bet they are), that means we can look forward to a fairly accurate LEGO military helmet (based on the US M1 for folks playing at home). That's very, very interesting, not only for the fact it means a great new minifig accessory, but also for another fairly good example of LEGO toeing the modern combat line (DIno Attack, Agents, Indy) in an interesting and thematically-appropriate way. Folks inclined towards military building have always said a generic military line could work, and you can get more generic than classic army men!

Each time I think LEGO might be peaking, they turn around and raise the bar just a bit higher. Kudos to you, TLC!

Joe Meno just posted newer, clearer pics of the entire event. Some excellent Lego in there!

Hey Badger, it looks like the Army Men are regular figs! Woot!

omg omg omg *jumps up and down in chair*

Those torsos are just soooo beutiful.

But this means the end of castle-line for this time then I guess?

(also it means I think it means I will have to start useing fleshies alongside with my regular figs :? )

I absolutely adore the new headgear for the Prince of Persia figs! And with the camels... let's hope for some interesting pieces of architecture and we'll have tons of new possibilities for Mid-East MOCs :)

(THIS might by the way just be my new favourite fig ;) )

The Toy Story figs look extremely well done, but beyond representing the films i'm not sure if they'll have much use beyond being those characters.

PoP on the other hand seems the complete opposite- there's a lot of potential in there for Castle/Arabian/Adventurer MOCs.

These are pictures of the new minifigures of two new Disney lines that will be released in 2010. There is no information about these on lego.com because they aren't out yet.
