History Channel 'Warriors' Series

Post by Username »

The post about Spike's Deadliest Warriors reminded me of The History Channel's Warriors series. You can check it out at http://www.history.com/warriors and watch full episodes. So far, I've seen the Knight (Henry V and Agincourt) and Babarian (Germania vs Romans) episodes and found they were top notch. Discussion included weapons, tactics and philosophy by reenactors in period attire. Very enjoyable show.

It has been years, maybe a decade since I saw one but some of them were really good.

Eh? A decade you say? You're into time travel? I could have sworn this was a new show.

Ooh, I saw part of one of those as well the other night - they were looking at the battles of William Wallace. Interesting show.

Sorry Username but no time travel just old. The history channel began these back in the 90s... you likely are just too young. I am not sure how long it has been since they made them actually. I have three of the original ones, sadly on VHS which I cannot watch. I'd like to get some of the news ones though.

The History Channel's been around for a while, but this is a new series. I've watched every episode so far, and they're all excellent! :D

Sorry HK but the HC has run Warrior series before this one. I am sure they will do another in a few years. This run seems to be fairly small comparatively with just four groups from what I have seen.

The groups they covered in the original run 1994-1995:

Assyrians, Aztecs, Celts, Egyptians, Hawaiians, Huns, Irish, Janissaries, Knights Templar, Macedonians, Maurya, Ninja, Normans, Romans, Samurai, Scots, Shaolin, Sioux, Spartans, Vikings and Zulus.

The old run is no longer listed on the HC store or A & E but I found several listed online and in local libraries.

I may be old, but not that forgetful...yet.

Oh. :o I had no idea, we didn't have cable then. Did the old ones have Terry Shappert in them as well?

HK,

Nope. They were just the normal HC type documentaries. Usually about 35 minutes in total (add some commercial time in etc. it was an hour long program if I remember right). I found several online but the host sites are either a bit dodgy looking or had other video links on them that were not kid friendly.

sounds cool, most of my favorite warrior nations are in the list above.
