LC XII entry:

Drakk was escorted at a brisk pace to the regional headquarters of the Queen’s soldiers. Set atop a hill, the small structure was surrounded by a brigade of soldiers. It was under obvious renovation, its size and shape suggested it could have previously been a small chapel until the new “residents” moved in. Upon approaching the modest building, a trio of guards stopped the knight escorting Drakk.
“Captain! How was the supply run?”
The knight responded with a grunt, “We found more than just supplies. I need to speak to the commander immediately.”
“Go on inside, he has been waiting for your report,” the guard replied while eyeing the stranger. Drakk returned the gaze from the corner of his eye as he entered the stone building.
The building was a single room with a large table in the middle. Two stone arches opened to the left and right to provide a spectacular view of the countryside while a dimly lit wall stood on the far side. A muscular man clad in dark armor stood in the shadows pouring over documents as the two entered.
The figure’s back faced them as he spoke. “You’re late.”
“Commander Trask. This is Drakk the sorcerer. We encountered him on his run. He wishes to join with the Queen.”
“Does he now.” The commander looked up from the documents and sized up Drakk with a glance. Drakk did the same. The commander was obviously a lifelong soldier. He was muscular despite his age, and was missing an eye. He wore a suit of plate with the queens sigil and daggers at his belt. Drakk noticed a sword hanging behind him that shone with an unnatural glimmer, possibly magic.
“Drakk is it? If you wish to join the queen you are going to have to prove yourself. And I think I have just the thing. Our scouts have reported a band of loresi soldiers at some ruins at the edge of the desert. They seem to have found something of interest, or they would have fled like the beaten dogs they are.” The commander turned to regard his captain. “Take Drakk and a handful of men and eliminate them. Give Drakk the plunder if he useful. That is all.”
Trask turned back to his documents and began muttering to himself. The captain saluted the commander’s back and turned to leave while Drakk followed as he contemplated the task. A chance for vengeance against scum who murdered his people, flexing his strength to awe to his newfound allies, and the possibility of treasure? Fortune was on his side.
