I hate Flickr groups!
Hey,
Okay, perhaps that title is a little over-stated, but I'm really frustrated with Flickr groups. I've started a couple of public groups (LEGO desktops, LEGO and God) with very specific charters. LEGO desktops is for large, high resolution, landscape photos, that someone could download and make the desktop on their computer. LEGO and God is for religiously themed LEGO creations (any religion, any scale, could be a vig based on a Bible story, a large scale MOC of a mosque, a microscale cathedral, LEGO-built stained glass window, etc). I can't tell you how often I have often I have to delete photos from the LEGO and God group. I've kind of given up on the desktops group. The thing is, people pay no attention whatsoever to group titles, let alone details in their charters, and just post anything LEGO to any group with LEGO in the title. For instance, I just deleted a Star Wars MOC from the LEGO and God group. It's a fine MOC, just nothing to do with the group. Then I looked at that MOC and saw that the builder posted it to 179 groups (!). Now, many of them were legit - he posted to various just general LEGO groups, there are a bunch of Star Wars LEGO groups on Flickr*, a couple that were for LEGO sci fi, LEGO movie scenes, a few that were more generic like "LEGO scenes" or just "LEGO" etc. But probably at least half of them were illegitimate, including:
LEGO Holiday builders - a group for holiday themed MOCs
Because it's MOCpages - a group mainly created to complain about and or make fun of MOCpages
Star Wars Costuming Fan Club - well, at least it's Star Wars, but this is for cosplayers
LEGO Star Wars minifigs - yes, this group is about SW LEGO, but it's for fig customs - there are no figs in this MOC
Surreal LEGO Art Pieces - which it's not
more than one WIP group - when it's a finished MOC
Beyond the New World Colonialism - for MOCs set in the 1600s, 1700s etc
Both AFOL and TFOL groups when he can't be both (okay, maybe he was 19 and 364 days when he posted the MOC to the TFOL group and came back the next day to post it to the AFOL group)
and on and on.
Now, I'm not picking on this particular guy, and please don't go figure out which SW MOC was posted in all of those groups and then go and harass him. And again, it's a really nice SW MOC. The point is, this is ubiquitous. If you open up any Flickr LEGO group with a particular theme, unless the group is tightly moderated, generally about half of the photos in the group are related to that theme and the rest are by LEGO builders who spam their creations over every group they can. It drives me nuts.
If you do this, please stop. If you moderate a LEGO-themed Flickr group, please rule with an iron fist.
Okay, rant over. I'll go to bed now.
Bruce
*Another rant on Flickr groups would be focused on the massive duplication of groups. There are tons of SW LEGO groups, a half dozen Tolkien groups, many many based on Batman or other comic franchises, several with names like "your best LEGO photo", etc. Why?!?!?! If I could be king for a day I would consolidate all of these into just one group for every major topic.

Re: I hate Flickr groups!
I agree. I am a member of the Lego GI Joe group and most of what is in there lately is some knockoff brand stuff. And while nowhere near a problem, the adventurers group seems to have a lot of M*A*S*H* stuff in it recently.
What's your desktop group? I'd like to check it out?

Re: I hate Flickr groups!
I usually add my own (main) pictures to at least 100 groups, but I don't randomly click any groups (which means it takes some time - in fact, I don't think I will join any more generic groups, just so I don't have to scroll through them). I have, once or twice, let my finger slip and added things to irrelevant groups, but that's the exception, not the rule by any means . As far as so many groups goes, I don't know. I suppose certain people just like getting their own group and being admin. I don't have any groups myself.

I know how you feel.
Which is why I moderate my one, small, group. (And I have this one person, who no matter how many times I deny his pictures, he keeps trying to ad them. THE SAME BLOODY PICTURES)
And so glad the Blacktron Group is moderated.

Re: I hate Flickr groups!
I used to add to lots of groups, but mainly a handful now, like the communities I actually use.
That being the main Flickr Lego group, Classic-castle, Eurobricks and Nocturnus - not much else.

Re: I hate Flickr groups!
Flickr groups can definitely be frustrating. I run a few myself, though mainly just the Summer Joust group which hasn't had much off topic stuff submitted, and John and I keep a pretty close eye on that.
I tend to add my pics to 15-30 groups, being careful to keep them in the right areas.

John 14:6, Jesus answered, "I am the way the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

I think Flickr just changed their interface massively.
