PWNED
Wuts that mean? I never heard of it before...

Anyway, I checked it out... looks cool! Pirates are my second favorite theme... I really love it, so I'm glad to see this site up, although with school and what not I won't have time to join now... CC is my favorite site and castle my favorite theme... 8) :D

Anyway, like I said... great site. How is the member list going?

OFFTOPIC:
TheOrk wrote:PWNED-pawned- The act of trading in a posession in for profit-slang for beating someone
Actually, pwned is a corrupt form of owned.
UrbanDictionary.com wrote: 1. pwned
A corruption of the word "Owned." This originated in an online game called Warcraft, where a map designer misspelled "owned." When the computer beat a player, it was supposed to say, so-and-so "has been owned."

Instead, it said, so-and-so "has been pwned."

It basically means "to own" or to be dominated by an opponent or situation, especially by some god-like or computer-like force.
"Man, I rock at my job, but I still got a bad evaluation. I was pwned."

OR

"That team totally pwned us."
To be fair, one definition does list a secondary meaning as a misspelled version of pawned. (Note the Urban Dictionary often contains foul language, so it may not be appropriate for you to visit. You've been warned.)

ONTOPIC:
I like the idea of book reviews on PirateBricks. Perhaps, CC should start a list of castle reference material.

A good idea, though it will be huge; when I go to the bookstore I usually only find 3 or 4 pirate books amongst the sea of castle books.

I agree that there's a great number of books out there, but you could probably break a list up into categories. Also, reviews might help to spotlight those books which are truly useful for creating castle MOCs.

Speaking as a library employee, there's a lot of books out there, but only so many good ones.

IF CC were to have a reference list, it could perhaps be kept at a manageable size by only including the books recommended as good by the users.

Although I personally don't think that a reference list is needed myself. Of course, as noted, I DO work in a library, and thus know where/how to find most things I'm looking for.

Heh!

I just shelve the books. I'm the page (which is nice, medieval title, let me point out). As a general reference for a broad look on medieval life, I recommend any of the DK Eyewitness books dealing with Castles, Knights, etc.

However, for the actual construction of Castles, I have yet to run into anything personally that struck me as good.

DK Eyewitness books
Heh heh heh... cool - thanks for the feedback... in terms of the books, is the "DK" series something that librarians or the computer system will recognize if I come to the library with that name?

DK is the publisher, Dorling-Kindersley. I don't know if putting in the publisher will help in your computer system or not- there's no point in the central Alberta system. But it might help the librarians- or the Pages. I don't know about all Pages, but if you're looking for a specific book, the Pages here in Olds are an excellen resource.

What happened to PirateBricks? I tried to go there today but I got this:

This Account Has Been Suspended
Please contact the billing/support department as soon as possible.

Has it officially died or is this just a temporary problem? I know the forum was a bit slow but it was a nice site...
