Hehe, you would be right. I usually open the smallest box first and that would be 6022 here.
However, in this case I got the parts of the two sets mixed in my advent calendar in 1984, and I never even saw the boxes of the sets because my mother throw them away. Luckily she kept the instructions, I think I got them on December 24.

That is a pretty neat idea! The only thing I ever got from the advent calendar's in my childhood was chocolate. I know I would rather have had Lego's!

Understandable... Pirate rocks! i wish they had made more pirate... it seems they are hard sets to get a hold of, and there is little to nothing be made these days.

I was 5 and it was 1979 and the set was the Yellow castle. It is probably why castle is my favorite theme and the only one I actually collect to some degree. All Other themes are parts fodder.

My first set was the ambulance helicopter.
First castle set I'm not so sure, but I remember being awed by the round corners in the BFF, so it was some time before that.
I have no idea what set number I got - I'm not sure they had set numbers then. Minifigs did not exist, and the only colors in the set were red and white - I don't recall there even being any black.
Definitely a deprived childhood.

I don't remember my first Lego set... I was born in 1975!
I'm sure it was was a Duplo set, then some of these serts with the figs bigger than classic minifigs (I don't know how they are called), then it was many Legoland sets!
About castle, it was the famous and so nicely colorful Knight Tournament #383 (I am very objective...); I was 7 or 8, and my next castle sets were after 1984 (i.e. the "grey" line with the first horse minifigs — I had many city and space Legoland sets).

My first Lego set was so long ago I can't remember - 35+ years - definitley a basic building set - because that is all there was. We had a lot of red bricks I remember - and another brand too , all in a big tub. By the time I have any real memories of it - we (my bro & I) were collecting hot wheels. I didn't really look at any sets or get any sets for most of the rest of my life until I dug out my wife's 1970's Lego trains just before Christmas 2004 - needed parts and searched the web - found bricklink first, then brickshelf and started checking out the cool castle MOCs - I got hooked.
Oh yea not life story - first set ...
