Wow, that's great! The black and light grey with red accents really look good in the snow and as a bit of a viking theme. The curves are nice too, this is great work!

Yeah, that's Felix "Fabulous Hair" Greco. It seems to be an expansion of his Green Wizard's Tower from about two years ago. I'm surprised he still had it around.
Anyways, i think i'll ask him if i can borrow some white bricks.

I like the snow on the trees and the domed towers... also, the OE banners go well with it all to create a nice feel overall... I'd say the only suprising (and possibly weakpoint) for me was the inclusion of Jayko, who doesn't seem to match the style of the MOC of the figs around it... still, it's really an impressive creation.

I've fallen out of the habit of posting but I still lurk several of the boards. If you're interested, here's a little more info...
The idea for a snowy dank castle was inspired by Winterfell, a location in George R R Martin's A Song of Fire and Ice; its the best fantasy series I've ever read.
Other than that here are some design details... All structures are cylinders and any squareness I tried to mask. Grey is shown in lines, red is always rounded, and black acts as filler. All the buildings should have a stone look. I attempted to show weathering only on sides that face the local river. A harsh cold wind blows off the river and blasts the one side of the castle. The wind has also blown most of the snow from the tops of buidings and tress, but some remains on the right-most portions.
The light blue knight was just thrown in. I envisioned him as a Hedge Knight- investing everything in his armor and gear and riding form lord to lord where work is available. He was sent off from this castle though-- the local lord has no use for over-paid, shiny armored, noble wanna-be'sottoatm wrote:I'd say the only suprising (and possibly weakpoint) for me was the inclusion of Jayko, who doesn't seem to match the style of the MOC of the figs around it

True. I feel that if we could have some ice on the scene Jayko would fit better. A nice creation; I like to use red and black to my main villain fortress. Nice way to build the trees, too.BreadMan wrote:I actually felt that Jayko fit in quite nicely in a winter landscape, for once I thought of his armor as "ice blue" instead of "baby blue."

I've only read the first of the song of fire and ice books (and then several years ago when it first came out) but from what I recall there were a lot of knights running around in coloured steel and 'enamelled' armour. There are a variety of bright colours and descriptions of the battlefields are very colourful.
Maybe this series is where TLC got the idea for such colourful knights?
Great MOC. It captures the feel of a fantasy novel, and the journeyman knight fits really well into the Fire and Ice idea – I think there’s a knight that turns up to a tournament in the first book? Though I thought he was in green armour… like I said, quite a while since I read it, really good book though, waiting for the series to be finished before I read the rest!
Cheers,
Mark.

Thanks. I was trying to avoid the typical tudor village and grey monolithic castle. My collection began with the black and grey castles and began growing from there. So, like it or not, I've grown a large black and grey collection.Brickboy wrote:I have to say that this is one of THE most unique castle mocs I have ever seen. I love the roofs. Are the red roofs pods(cant remeber name) lids?
Thanks for the kind words. I forgot to mention that the videogame Icewind Dale was also a big inspiration. I don't play D&D but I love the art.BreadMan wrote:Song of Ice and Fire is a good series, it was actually one of the firsts thing I thought of when I saw this. I'd say you've done a good job capturing it.
Its good to get some positive feedback considering I'm not a regular castle builder. My interests vary but castle is certainly one of my favorites.
Like everyone has already said, this is an awesome castle!
I like the winter environment and the unique architecture of the castle.
The color pattern of the castle is great and fits in very well with the winter landscape and the dome rooftops also look very good.
I also really like those little huts and the fire pit.
It all fits in perfectly with the scene.
Good stuff!

Wow! that looks great! I like the way that everything fits together. The one thing that I found disappointing is that there are almost no minifigs and the inside of the castle doesn't look finished.
It is a great MOC all the same!
Have a good day, Thomas
