Lego has been smart, they have stuck with a great product and weathered the ups and downs of the market, by staying true to their beliefs. Even if they have made some gafs, they are still competing. MB has the upper hand now - but will it be forever?

I know that in 10 years the lego in my closet will be able to be given to the next generation of Lego Enthusiasts - but the MegaBlocks will have hit the trash can - and not just because I don't like them, but because they wear out. Their designs are not as good and the figs break and blocks scratch - It's short term gain to make a cheap product - what will happen in 10 years?

Let's stick with Lego for the long haul - accepting their mistakes and lauding their success.

Some examples of good planning is their Dupo Licensing for Bob the Builder, Dora the Explorer and now Thomas the Tank Engine - I know it doesn't mean much for castle enthusiasts, but it does mean the company is doing well in some markets

I am waiting for Vikings ....
All I have to add is: AMEN! :D

Blasphemer!!!

Made in China Lego will be of good quality. Who knows, maybe the factory workers in Shanghai will screw up the color formula for Bley and we get old Grey instead!

That would renew my faith in industry. It also gives me reason to hope for old gray. But what are the odds?

I'm not the biggest fan of outsourcing, but I am suprised LEGO hasn't been doing this already. I think they might have to in the face of competition from the likes of MegaBlocks, not to mention Manga, X-Box and other things that might draw away their fan base.

Of course I'd rather they didn't outsource, and I'd be a bit nervous if they did. But as long as the quality stays high, I'd be "ok" with it.

I guess that's the end of the Roseart Lego Creator Board Game (and I think the Lego Racer Board Game). Although I know that two different companies produced the game.

Founded in 1923, RoseArt is the second-largest brand in the $1.8-billion U.S. arts-and-crafts market and the leader in magnetic building sets
And now Mega Bloks is making magnetic building sets too: http://www.figures.com/databases/action ... _article=5, "Mag-Warriors".

I agree; I wouldn't want Lego products to be of low quality just so the company can earn more money. Hopefully they trained the outsourcing employees well to maintain the company's standards.

Whoa. A five year old thread rises from the dead!

Just to give you an update, there were quality issues with Lego products made in China. Mostly they have been dealt with, though it is still occasionally an issue. Lego is aware of the quality issues and is addressing them.

Then it should have died a few years back.

I'm not worried. Brand "M" hasn't been able to take LEGO and won't. The only company that can make LEGO fall is LEGO itself.

The thing about zombies is, it's always necessary to aim for the head.

You guys crack me up. ;)

I'm locking this thread. I don't think there is anything new that can possibly be added.

Headshot!
