Historically accurate or Fantasy?

Post by Aidan »

Back when my treasure hoard was being threatened in the forum by dragons, undead and powerful wizards this question occured to me.

What type of Lego world do you build in? I voted some fantasy which I qualify as this; I can have dwarves and dragons and wizards. However, dragons would only be massive and exceedingly rare (no one is riding them into battle). Likewise, there are wizards but they are rare and not the warring type (no one is shooting fire from their fingertips). I have no undead (my skeletons are truly dead :) ). Of course all this could change.....
Let them come...
They will break upon this fortress like water on rock!

I think we all can guess as to what *I* voted for.

My world is or course Boundless fantasy. The magic of my world has similarities to several popular authors work. Terry Goodkind, David Farland, Robert Jordan and Melanie Rawn's Sunrunner books. My magical beings have powers similiar to many of these works. So yes my Wizards can throw fire, shake the earth mercilessly, cause gale force winds, so many wickedly wizardy things.

Dragons in my realm are plentiful, at least the TLC tiny dragons are. These are little more than pests that can be domesticated and controlled by magic. They spit a type of liquid fire that is almost like molten plastic. In fact my Dragon master faction is a hired band of mercenaries that hunt the smaller dragons for the bounty of 15 gold marks per head.

Larger dragons inhabit my realms as well, they tend to be more secluded, intelligent and rare than their smaller cousins and no single wizard could control one using magic. Hunting these dragons is outlawed and dangerous beyond belief. Some large dragons have control of their own magics on top of their liquid fire. A dangerous combination.

I also have mythological beasts like elves, centaurs and dwarves. Undead exist and so do goblins, trolls and orcs.

So boundless fantasy is a proper description of my world. :D

I'm a history major, so I enjoy playing with some of the historical themes that I see in the real world, and putting those themes into my lego world.

that being said, i dont enjoy carefully recreating medieval england cerca 1100 or anything like that, because most of the actual medieval ages were kinda boring.

Also I believe in having fun in my lego world, so that means people might be eating pizza, or doing something else equally anachronistic.

I'm not a big fan of wizards, etc - except as lonely hermits - imagine the medieval version of Yoda or something.

I like a mixture of fantasy and realism. To me, having too much of either can be boring or overwhelming. Many of my moc's have historical inspiration. At the same time, I am not against adding a wizard here or there, just not fifty of them fighting each other (ala star wars episode II).

I build in a theme I like to call 'Lord of the Rings:Battles of the Reunited Kingdom' In which King Aragorn battles orcs and the rebuilt forces of Sauron with the help of the heroes that did not sail to the west at the end of the trilogy(eg Ginli, Legolas, Eomer ect.) except for Gandalf, who has been summoned back to help the forces of good. This is, of coarse, fantasy! There is my vote!

I like to keep things as accurate as I know how, in terms of buildings and such. But I'm not against having a dragon, or a wizard here and there. So I'd say a mix, but leaning perhaps a little more to tha accurate side. That's not to say, though, that if I had the parts, I wouldn't love to have a massive LOTR theme or something.

Seems to me that either you have the fantasy-elements or you dont.

I voted "some fantasy" since I do´nt own the proper elemants for elves and dwarves, but dragons are widley used in the world of mine.

They represent, to the poor LEGO-people a god who are tighed to the peoples destiny, since they´ve just arrived in their new world it´s all kind of scary and mystic...

Mines is a mix of history, fantasy/mythology.

I have the historic Mycenae (pre-classical Greece), Egypt, Persia, and etc., yet at the same time I have the 3 Kahilwayan factions... the Empire, the Explorers, and the evil "New Kingdom".

Been thinking of adding Atlantis into the mix.....

To have a dragon, a hyppogriffe, magicians, Ent, liches, thealive ones, vampires, goblins, elves, hobbits, orcs, demons, necromancer, an ogre, a kraken is regarded as being the fantastic one? If so, my world is fantastic :D

Some fantasy

Post by cracker nate »

I use some fantasy in my building. Dwarves, orcs, and (soon) elves and centaurs mainly. I've got a few dragons, but I'm not a big fan of the Lego Dragons. If I ever could build realistic dragons like Anthony, they'd have a bigger place.

I like the idea of magic, but I'm not really into my stories being magic-centric. There is some minor magic floating around, but it usually takes the form of enhanced (stronger) weapons or the creation of golems and automatrons. No fireballs or levitating, yet. Aside from the other races, I don't want to get too far away from reality. I'm more of a fan of the "sword" than the "sorcery". Oh, and I use dinosaurs are pack animals for my Bulls.

I use magic in my little world. I try to ballance it out though. So if your adept at using magic, you're not as good at swinging around a great big axe. I do have a number of wizards hangin' around, but I also have armored-up dudes just waiting to knock you down with different weapons.

Or I go for a "leader" figure. A person who has a large un-magical army at their command, but also has some enhansing ability at their disposal. Like making their troops faster, or stronger... Like a Paladin or Witch-Doctor.

Oh, and yes I do have fireballs, levitating and all sorts of spells. So there is a lot of magic floating around in my world, but I try not to let it get out of check.

I don't have fantasy, but I do have a dragon or two around. I try to strive for realisticness as much as possible.

It kind of depends on the mood I'm in. If I've just gotten finished watching the history channel, chances are that I'll be building realistically. On the other hand, after playing Warcraft or reading/watching LOTR, I kind of feel like mising in some fantasy.

I went with some fantasy. I don't like the different races thing, only if they are only in small bands across the world (My Orcs are numbered very few). i allow magic, but it is seriously limited, because if you have magic you get all this weird and funky spell stuff ruining a really good and bloody battle by killing the entire enemy army. Nope, none of that. None of this "Catyclasmic Magic" crap, it poisons my perfect human Medieval Warfare world!
