Half a castle - Updated aug 12th

Post by Aliencat »

Figured I'd post some work-in-progress pictures since I can't really continue this castle right now because I'm waiting for a few huge bricklink orders to reach my doorstep :)
So what I have now is about half a castle. It's roughly based on the Muiderslot near Amsterdam, but isn't going to be exactly the same (I'm adding some personal extras just because I can :P)

Here's a shot of the castle as it is now from the front (click pic to enlarge):

And here's a shot from the back (click pic to enlarge):

I still have quite some work to do before it's done, but I figure it's about halfway done now.

aug 12 - For updates check next page :)

This looks great, the construction seems pretty sound, and the corner towers are well thought-out.

Is there going to be a fourth tower, or are you going to be adding more baseplates to the foundation?

Thanks RichardAM,
In the fourth corner there's going to be the Great Hall with a fourth tower. This tower will not have a roof like the other 3 though, because I want to place a mangonel here :)

Very nice. I love the gatehouse roof that slopes gently and then suddenly tapers up. Great job!

Great! I love how you've set the corner wall panels into the wall, rather than along the wall. I've not seen it done like that before and it looks awesome.

I like how this MOC is going. I do have a few comments, and some constructive criticism.

1. The gate-house looks nice and big, which I like. It would look very imposing to any attacking force.
2. I like the size (length) of your drawbridge.
3. The size of your castle walls is impressive, but I am not sure that I would have “windows” in the walls, or at least low down in the walls.
4. The shape of the corner towers look great, but again I wouldn’t have windows that low down.

Overall I am liking what I am seeing. It is definitely heading down the direction of very impressive castle. Keep up the great work.

Wow, this is quite nice. It seems small at first, but then it is quite roomy in the court yard. Nice!

Great castle - I can't wait to see it completed! I really like the dark-gray insets in the gate house and the hoardings on top.

Good work!

Thanks guys, I'm just working on the interior now until the rest of my parts for the walls arrive :)

Thanks for the criticism, I agree the lower windows do seem kind of out of place, it would be a place for enemy archers to shoot in, instead of friendly archers to shoot out. Thanks for bringing that to my attention, I'm going to change it.

I like the windows in the walls. They seem to give a nice touch.

Looking great so far, I like how it's overall shape is square but still interesting - never easy to do ;) Looks like there's some great features, such as the wall galleries. Great stuff

I like the hoardings placed around the Gatehouse. Good work so far. Although, IMO, you could expand it even further. Instead of it being 1/2 a Castle, you can make it 1/4... if you know what I mean.
