Help the Hungry

Post by Lord Felix »

Ok, so here's the deal. I've found one of the many ways to help the hungry on the internet, and thought that you all could help. Free Rice is part of Poverty.com. Basically, all you do is go to the site and test your vocabulary. Just keep on doing it; for every one you get right 10 grains of rice is donated. It, at least to me, is fun and challenging, and has expanded my vocabulary already.

Quoted from the website:

"FreeRice is a sister site of the world poverty site, Poverty.com.

FreeRice has two goals:

1. Provide English vocabulary to everyone for free.
2. Help end world hunger by providing rice to hungry people for free.

This is made possible by the sponsors who advertise on this site.

Whether you are CEO of a large American corporation or a street child in India, improving your vocabulary can improve your life. It is a great investment in yourself.

Perhaps even greater is the investment your donated rice makes in hungry human beings, enabling them to function and be productive. Somewhere in the world, a person is eating rice that you helped provide. Thank you."

Basically, the ads at the bottom of the page (iTunes and a few others) are paying for every answer you get right, and that money is used to buy rice for the homeless.

I just thought I'd like everyone to have a heads up.

P.S.
To whom it may concern, this IS not spam. I AM George, who builds with legos and is 14. :P

Just did it, donated 1000 grains. I'm going to tell my English class about this- I'm sure that a lot of people will participate. Thanks for the tip, Lord Felix.

Oh man, that is fun. I'm up to 2310, and I don't want to stop! Shame that I have to pack up the house though... Is it bad to like taking vocab tests?

I donated 100 grains today and will continue to donate daily. Too bad I already finished my SATs, this would have been good 3 years ago.

While feeding the hungry is a good thing, this topic has nothing to do with LEGO. All posts on Classic-Castle must be LEGO related. Therefor, I am locking this thread. Feel free to discuss this topic in the CC Chatroom.
