Post by Asterios »

well after viewing the new Roman Legionnaire acces. BrickForge will be makeing and selling;

Image

I'm in love with it,except i feel the shield is too small compared to a legionnaire shield also their was more then the rectangle design too.

Looks nice, if you're into that time period in history. I wonder if the "brush/plume" is moveable because I thought that, historically, the brush should be pointing to the front and back of the soldier not side to side.

Personally, I'll stick to amassing Dwarven and Orc(troll) armies for now.

I'm not so interested in the armor and shield, but I like the looks of that sword.

wrong. the way its placed now is for centurios, if turned 90° its good for an optio or other officers. Legionnaires didnt carry plumes on their helmet.

On eurobrivks, and I also believe here, is another pic of this in the dear lego and ambassy forums (roman threads)

Looks good, but I'm not so sure about the shields...

Fantastic! Now I can stop dithering on chopping more castle helms and just start buying these! Although, I wonder if they will only sell in a battle set like the Greek helms? In that case I may have to re-think as I already have all the shields I need...but then again the swords look nice so maybe for the price... :?:

The helm itself looks great, and the plume is done very well, with the option to turn it to different directions for the different ranks.

The shield needs help; it should not be totally flat, but should have some curve, and I'd like to have seen the center boss. The round shields were flat, and those were for auxilliary soldiers.

THe sword looks good, though I'm wondering why teh width of the blade isn't consistent. Smaller blades were made in that shape, but the swords were usually straight. It still looks nice and it's a minor nit-pick.

I suppose this is the Gladius Hispanicus type Pompius. If so, yes the blade should be straight, but earlier Gladii didnt always have a straight blade. The versions from before the 1st century ACN are longer than the standard "pompeius" gladius though...

I love the imperial gallic helmet. Although it wasnt seen much in bronze (except auxiliaries I think), I presume a silver version will be produced also?

The scutum... If this is supposed to be one of the type used in the 1st-first half of 2nd Century AD, it should be wider and much more curved. (looks almost flat in there...) It's sad the iron knot isnt included in the sculpt...

I think I may get a few not to have an army but these will be great at Christmas and Easter. I try (not that it always happens) to do holiday stuff.
