Goodbye to Greystone...

Post by davescastle »

Hi all,

Its been quite some time since I posted here, have been in and out of multiple Dark Ages over the past ten years. I have to say after seeing the recent castle range, I had to stick my nose in.

Ive managed to find some time to renovate my last castle 'Greystone' that I had built over three years ago. I will be pulling this castle apart in September, so I thought I would share some pics before it crumbles to pieces.

Nothing much changed, I re-designed the side tower over the side entrance, added some life across from the docks and re-designed the gate house before the Main Entrance. Also added a moat under the main Gangway.

Sadly, I will be moving to a place where I'm a little more restricted with room and there is no way I can move this without splitting it in four. My son and his mates already have dibs on doing a mass Brikwars, I wont hang around to watch....

Cheers,
Dave

Pulling apart a huge MOC is always hard. That being said, as I've never built anything quite this large, I can only imagine how difficult this is. Greystone is a beautiful MOC, and finding the time to build a huge MOC in of itself is a major challenge. I certainly hope that your next MOC is equally impressive.

Good work, and congrats on a great MOC.

That is pretty cool. Sorry to hear you have to break it up. I can imagine not wanting to stick around when it goes. I have never built something that big before but when I need something torn apart I usually let me son do it. At his age it really is what he excels at.

Thanks for the pictures!

So sad. :( Greystone is one of my favorite MOCs of all time. I love the changes you have made as well. I really like the new gatehouse as it looks more defensable. I know they are not new but I always liked the little shelters atop the towers for relief from the rain and or sun.

That is definately one industrial sized lego space you have got there. Too bad you have to give up a place like that for building. Since I have plenty of space at my house for it do you want me to keep it for a while for you? Will you be attending any conventions with it before the brickwars begin?

Best of luck on your move in the fall. May your new home leave you plenty of time for MOCing. I want to see more of your wonderful creations.

I really like this castle, but I understand your dilemma. What has to be done, has to be done I guess. Also, sorry for kinda stealin' your thunder when I posted your gallery. I thought it was too cool to not tell people here about the pics.

 That's really sad that you have to dismantle this great MOC. I have been a fan of this castle for a long time, it always made me dream about having enough bricks to build something that big and impressive. Hopefully your kids have fun with the war

I was looking at this the other day wondering who built it. Glad you reposted.IT is unfortunate that you must dismantle it but that only means you can build something else! I can't wait to see what it may be. You are a grand builder and I hope to see MANY more Mocs (unintended alliteration) from you.

Not sure in which topic to post this so (i posted this in the other thread as well)

"Incredible moc. The size is just.....amazing. And there are so many details in it, yes here is another one: Wow!
I really like that this is not just a large castle moc, but also has lots of life into it. So many people doing their thing...its really cool to look through all the pictures."

Hehe i bet your sons will have a blast. Maybe now you can start a new (smaller) project in your new place?

Anyway i wish you good luck with everything, and i hope to see more from you! your an awesome builder.

Hey Dave

Just out of curiosity, did you source all of your pieces from bricklink, or from other places too. Also, how much did the whole thing cost? :D

PS Out of control castle man. Must be best thing I've seen on brickshelf so far. :D

Sorry for the double post, just noticed the other two days ago.

Thank you for the comments...

I get this question a lot. I do shop on Bricklink, but have to say that I was lucky to have a mate that worked in all the right places years ago, pre-2000, before the high demand online where I managed to get a lot of light Grey parts in bulk. I mainly use Bricklink for minifig accessories, like weapons, shields, armour, etc, stuff that dont come easy in bulk. Im a real fan of building large armies, I just dont post the pics....

I will try to get some pics of the POST-Brikwars.

Cheers
Dave

Nooooooooooooooo!!!! Of the thousands and thousands and thousands of MOCs I have seen (literally), this is one of my two favorites! (Along with the Winter Home of the Happy Sunshine People) I am really sad, and sorry, to hear this! It is so realistic and simple yet attractive at the same time (on the outside) and the inside is so full of everything... absolutely no way to make it better, it is PERFECT! I have spent hours pouring over the pictures of it on BrickShelf... I am so sad to hear it has to go! I also really like how the ladders come up in the middle of the towers, and I love the huge staircases, and all the little rooms that have opening walls to see. It is all SOOO amazing! *cries, because it is about to be destroyed* Well, I hope your move goes well, and I am excited to see any more castles that you build!
