Border Outpost

Post by wunztwice »

Hi-ya everyone!

Finally done...
This MOC was originally built for BrickCon 2008 and has sat in a "Mostly finished" state for over a year taking over my LEGO table. It's time it goes, so I finished it off quick and here it is.

Image

I'm not particularly proud of the castle, but I think most of the landscping came together quite nice.
There are alot of details in the gallery/set.

Hokay, so here's the story I worked up in my head:
This small border outpost was attacked by some rabble during the winter, only causing some damage to the front wall and burning the barracks.
Now spring has come and the baron in charge of the area is able to pay a visit. He is coming to check up on the progress of the new barracks, while the town patriarch wished to discuss paving the courtyard to quell the mud...
The miller takes a break upon the arrival, while the Inn maid and stableboy finish their tasks.
Not even the stable boy is aware of the secret passage under the stable.

The diorama features a working waterwheel and millstone, secret passage, and more than enough rockwork to drive me crazy...

Thank you for looking, and for reading if you made it through all that!

Wow! The landscaping is stunning. I love the look of the rocks, and the transition to snow on the higher peaks. The castle feels like it was built into the side of the mountain, not that the mountain was built up around the castle if you know what I mean. The details on the castle such as the houses, the mill, and the peasants working are really great, it has the feel of a fully functioning castle. Your patience and diligence has really paid off, congrats!

Wow that is outstanding, I love the mill, nicely executed especially with the motor feature. I like how you made your own unique army as well. The castle turned out very clean but I have to agree with everyone else that the landscape looks amazing. I really like the integration of the castle into the landscape, especially the upper gate. I think now I'm going to go back to staring at the pictures :D !

I agree on the landscape, very beautiful.
As you mention in your text below the pictures (which for some reason i can not enlarge :( ) the Castle looks as if it is not quite finished, it looks good but not finished :).
Nevertheless great job!

*i've noticed the video off the mill which i find very adorable, great detail!

That`s true. The castle itself is medicore (for your standard) but landscaping is simply amazing.

Thanks everyone! It's nice to know that although I tired of this some time ago, at least the landscaping paid off! All your replies have been very kind.

Thank you! The motor feature was a result of a conversation with Josh (our admin here) about the lack of motion in Castle. Spacers and Trainheads have all sorts of ideas for that, but we castlers have had very little to do with motor functions. I see Power Functions changing that some, but not enough in my book. There are a plethora of possibilities for that, I hope others start integrating some as well!

As to the faction, I've been making these guys ever since the Fright Knights came out. The fleur-de-lis torsos were the best part of that line, I've been collecting them ever since.

Thanks again! (Now go build!!!)
