Minnesota Renaissance festival! vs. the true Rennaissance!

how well do you think this Rennaisance festival relates to the actuall Rennaissance time..
i have been to this festival and it was pretty solid had good food(giant mutons,beef jerky,beer-wine, and much more..) they also include jousts and a lot of random stuff. like the town jester and the even the town begger. If thats not enough people also dress up as knights,princesses,jester,magicians and really whatever they want.
I was just curious what you all think?

Very poorly, at least the Texas Renaissance Festival and Scarborough Faire. They are more of fantasy faires.

I have yet to attend a Renaissance festival that is true to the actual Renaissance time period. The closest was about 20 years ago at the Maryland festival. The last time I went to a festival (years ago) there were people running around dressed as vampires and elves. For days after I was correcting the misperceptions my children developed after attending.

They really need to change the names to something more reminiscent of what takes place. That or crack down on some of the silliness that walks through their doors.

I guess they allow it 'cause they need to make money. To each his own I guess.

Not terrifically accurate, I would think. Shouldn't a Renaissance festival have recreations of the painting of the sculptors imitating Michelangelo and people building Leonardo's inventions?

As for accuracy to the Medieval period... it depends, a lot of them are more fantasy and there's a lot of anachronism. Even pirates are common. But that's fine by me; if you want accuracy I'd recommend reenactments. Fairs are for fun.
