New Takeshi Itou - Canal Castle

Post by Bruce N H »

Hey all,

It's always nice to see a new Takeshi Itou MOC appear. This one is the Canal Castle:

That's a great castle! But then again has Itou ever made one that wasn't great?

I love the small harbor, and the lock is brilliant.

This is one of those MOCs that is very inspiring and creative at the same time. Yet, the more I look at this, I realize how space efficient the layout is. Incredible. The older minifigures look good too. I don't remember seeing/hearing about an actual lock system in operation during the medieval time period.

Very neat MOC. The idea itself is very unique. I love how you can see the water running out like small water falls.

Tower,

They did sort of have a lock system. The first wet to dry docks were used in the late medieval system. Several were up and running in and around Southampton.

Now that the folder is public I can finally bask in its glory.
While this lacks the detail as some other Castle creations I think this captures an ideal type of gothic architecture. The grey cylinders along the corners really give off a gothic feel. Excellent layout as well. He also has an enviable amount of cypress trees.

My favorite detail is actually the green 1x1 and 2x2 tiles lining the riverbank, like lilypads or maybe scum. The lock system is brilliantly laid out and executed, as are all things Itou.

Azure, a saltire cantoned with a star in chief and in base and two crescents addorsed in the flanks, argent.

I love the canal idea. There are some aspects that are really fleshed out well, and the action of the scene feel authentic. The inclusion of the monastery is a great idea that too many builders ignore. I kept thinking the walls on either side might have a secret compartment, but looking at the interior, it appears they are masking the deep canal/street. :) Nice creativity!
