In The Lord of the Rings, while the Fellowship of the Ring approach Mount Doom to complete its quest of destroying the One Ring made by the Dark Lord Sauron, Gandalf is forced to decide which path to take: over the mountain of Caradhras through the Redhorn Gate, or through Moria, to the Dimrill Gate. At Aragorn's insistence they first try the mountain pass, but the weather proves too severe, and the Fellowship instead approach the Doors of Durin, beside which the Watcher lived in a lake. When Boromir disturbs the water, the Watcher seizes Frodo with a long, pale-green, luminous, fingered tentacle, succeeded by twenty more. The Company rescue Frodo and retreat into Moria, and the Watcher seals the Doors shut. As Gandalf commented, "Something has crept or been driven out of the dark water under the mountains. There are older and fouler things than orcs in the deep places of the world."
Here is my latest build. I thought that this scene from the Fellowship of the Ring would be an interesting one to attempt. I used a flashlight behind the rock wall to illuminate the door into Moria. Technically, the door should be open at the time that the Watcher attacks, but I chose to keep it closed so that I could try my hand at illuminating it with the flashlight. Thanks for viewing!
Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.Joshua 1:9
No idea why nobody has commented on this yet, it's awesome. Pretty near perfect recreation of the scene from the film, and the rock work in the background is among the best I've seen. I especially like the door itself, but really everything's top notch. Only criticism I have is that the shoreline is a little bare, so maybe some stones or brambles could be added, but that's it. Great stuff.
Thought I'd commented on this. I featured it on TolkienBricks but never actually said anything here. Awesome MOC. The shaping of the tentacles is really organic feeling, and the effect of the light-source behind the trans plates is really cool to make the magic writing.
