Thanks to this post, I have decided to download MLcad. What are you opinions of the program? Can it be rendered to look good, or is it always in ML cad form.
I really know very little about how to do these things, but you can definitely take a file you create and render it in POV-ray to make polished images. There are tons of resources on ldraw.org and discussion on lugnet.cad.
and click on the LDraw Tools Installer (Recommended) link to install everything.
I've used MLCad to design & LPub to create instructions for MOCs as I've been doing them. I wrote a short article on my first experience rendering instructions (including how to get the light gray looking right) here:
