Everything is great except I think it should have a different torso. Probably the other fright knight one. It looks very clean. I can't spot any glue marks.

He needs more flashy clothing, Doppelsoldners and Landsknecht always wore brightly colored clothing. Perhaps you can give him an imperial armada cuirass? Other than that, he looks great.

Very cool! I agree with the others, and perhaps a different 'glove' color could be great. Still, the creation looks very similar to the sketch.

Aye, more colors (he is from the time of happy colors not the dark ages, afterall) and some other torso (studded armor isnt really what they seem to wear).

Else, I like him. The belt is a plus.

Are these any better? I can't decide on a color scheme yet - feel free to suggest. I like the darker colors, and I know it's not accurate... but I like them.

I would use an Armada curiass, but
1. I don't have one
2. Those rolled-back sleeves are already conflicting enough as it is, and if I were to pay Bricklink price for one, I'm afraid it'd get scratched

Ah well. Open to improvements.
Thanks,
Ethan

Whoah, very nice...as Jawa said...no glue, and the cuffs look really cool!

I think he looks fine from what I see in the referance picture, but dang, that's a HUGE SWORD!

Isn't it like...a cat-catcher or something like that?

Oh those poor cats

It's either a Katzbalger or a Flamberg(e), depending on which 'expert' you ask.

The final version, which came out quite well, in my opinion:

Hope that's better. Note the plate-armor on the hips of the third try, which (in my opinion) enhances the baggy look of the pants.

Yeah, the Kaltzbalger, or "cat-slayer", a really long sword with ridges, and points near the hilt. (I think)

I think he looks even better like this...the hip armour is awesome.

I don't personally like it, but you did a really nice job at it's very true to your reference. The hat looks just as ridiculous as the picture, though using brighter colors (blue? yellow? purple?) on the hat itself could look better.

On the 'final' version... the dual leg-protecting flanges just look bad. Either use a curiass torso ( since you don't have the armada breastplate) or take the ninja-plate off the legs. In any event, it's a very clean custom.

Ethan,
The fig looks really better now! And Mikal, about the hat, it can look weird, but it adds a lot to the soldier's concept. It gives, IMO, an 'explorer' look to him (hmm... maybe because it's from the Adventure theme? :P ).

About the leg protection, I understand your point of view, but looks like the soldier is bearing too much armor now. I would suggest the samurai legs to match the reference pic.

I like this fig alot (all versions). And I've come to expect a mainly brown/black/dark grey colorscheme from you. It's sort of a signature style :P. Love that hat. You could also use the flat end of a lever for the hat decorations.
