Favorite Civilian Castle Set

Post by Remyth »

Just that. I have been wondering what other prople's favorite civilian castle set was. This is during the Black falcon/Crusader era.

My personal favorite is 6060-Knight's Challenge. I like this set because of..well..just about everything. It has great playability, awesoem peices, and a good amount of people. This set also has a very good design and the colors really help make it stand out.

Thanks,
Thomas Wunz <><

If you are including sets with soldiers and fighting there are several other peasant/civilian sets worth consideration. These would be 6055 Prisoner Convoy, 6067 Guarded Inn, 6023 Maiden's Cart, 1974 Smuggler's Hayride, and 6103 Castle Minifigures.

Actually, I was looking for sets that had no knights or soldiers. If I had included these, there would be too many poll options. That is why I only included these sets in the poll, although the other sets also have civilian content.

In Christ,
Out of your options only 6010 and 3739 do not have soldiers.

As a truly civilian set I like 3739. These are all great sets and LEGO should consider adding civilians in the castle world.

I like Daniel Siskind's the most. I bought about 4 of them. :D

Great set, but like everything else I buy it going into the chopping... I mean parting block.

IMO, it's sets like Siskinds that just proves that it takes an AFOL to design a great set.

Knight's Challenge rocks! It's very civilian if you think of it as analog to our modern equivalent: parties and sporting events. It seems like quite the party: Two competing factions coming together peacefully (in theory), goblets and mugs a-plenty, and a tapped keg.

The only two people not having fun are Double-Axe Guy and Blue Scalemail Dude. They're still on duty, protecting their respective Faction Lord and the Lady of the Tournament.

And you can't forget Ale Dude/Peasant Girl. (Or Ale Girl...the beauty of open-ended, no official storyline LEGO sets!)

Siskind's Blacksmith Shop (I missed the boat on that one  ) is also cool. My "problem" (not really a problem) with it is that in official LEGO set world, that building must be huge compared to the minor fortresses of many factions. (Tune in next time--different forum, of course--for the discussion about jealous Feudal Lords and the rising Merchant/Tradesman Class!)

It's a little ironic that the arguably best-designed pure civilian set is for the dude who helps maintain the war machine.

I picked the armor shop, because it has always apealed to me as a regular medieval life set.

I think 6060 is a spectacular set, but I think for a more pure civilian set it would have to be 1974 Smuggler's Hayride. I have two copies and I won't be parting them out into my collection anytime soon! It's so simple, yet could still provide hours of play for kids (and AFOLs).

I must admit that I like the original blacksmith shop. Probably as it has sentimental appeal to me - being one of the first castle sets I ever bought.
