Let me just say this: WOOOO! CALLED IT!!!1!!eleven! /obnoxious post

Honestly though, I'm not a bit surprised by this with the strange disappearance of the pirate line after only a single year and with the pick-up of the Disney licence. The Black Pearl is not a LEGO set I will be letting get away, to be sure.

Oh, I hope not. I hope its just a custom they did. I'd much prefer a non-licensed pirate theme.

I am interested that they made a hair piece that fits under a hat... or a hat that fits over a hair piece.

Any pirates are better than no pirates, BUT..I am not happy about a POTC line. Licenses cost too much for too little pieces. Then there is the fleshies which I am not a fan of. But on a positive note, Capn Jack is well done.

I'm really skeptical of this actually. Usually licensed themes are best introduced when the movie franchise they go with is out so that the movie can generate interest in the toy line and thereby drive sales. PotC finished its trilogy years ago and I just don't think there's much interest in it now.

I believe the Jack Sparrow we see there is a very well-done custom fig.

Also, I should point out that Megablocks did a PotC line when the movies were out. Here's a link: Click on me if you dare.

Pirates of the Caribbean 4 (On Stranger Tides) is due for release in 2011. It seems reasonable that if Lego were to have acquired this license that it would start promoting this now, especially since it sounds like other teasers for the film are being released at Comic-Con.

I thought the POP line was pretty good, so if POTC line becomes a reality, then hopefully it will be of the same quality as the POP line.
To be honest, I would prefer POTC over a non-licensed pirate theme. The recent pirate line was basically a rehash of the classic pirates,
not that there is anything wrong with that, I thought it was a good line. But I do think more variety would be nice to have for the
pirate theme, and POTC might be able to provide that, so we'll see what happens.

A new POTC movie is scheduled to be released in 2011, its going to be in 3-D, like the movie Avatar.
Judging by the popularity of the last 3 films, I think this one is set to surpass the previous 3.

Also, the pirate Blackbeard is suppose to be a new character in the 4th film, I would love to have a Lego version of him.

This is how I see it. A POTC line would be completely POTC driven, full of horrible creature people, which only are desired by a limited few. A classic pirate theme allows for creativity, more play and is far more useful than a licensed theme. In addition, it means we'll be limited to a Black Pearl ship, which might be nice, but it is not exactly a realistic pirate ship, or is it the only ship I want to see in a line. Pirates attack merchant and cargo ships, they do not attack military ships unless they are carrying a large amount of wealth. A true pirate fan wants more.

And further more, that head looks like the Toy Story heads, which are useless to me. Meh, I couldn't be less excited to see a LEGO line, and I am a big pirate fan.

It's going to be in South America, right? So it will be like the early 1990s Pirates vs Islanders, but with fleshies and repeating minifigures. I hope the construction techniques are well thought out and not overly expen$ive.

If it turns out half as well as Prince of Persia and Indiana Jones however, then I'll be a happy camper.

Oh, I didn't realize they were making a fourth movie. Well, I don't know whether to be appalled or excited by that fact, but I stand corrected. It does indeed make sense for TLC to make a PotC themed line then.

As I said on the Cove:

"I have a bad feeling about this."

And a fourth movie? Honestly, I am more exited about the Lego PotC than a fourth movie. The second and third were bad enough. I am rather looking forward to see what the Black Pearl is going to look like. (I'm am 99.99% positive they will make a Black Pearl. What sort of PotC line would be complete without one?)

I really only liked the first movie. Not really looking forward to this line. Not a big fan of huge molded minifig pieces. It may surprise me though.

If they were to do Davey Jones' crew, I don't think they'd be much different than the types of figs we're getting in the Atlantis theme. I'm far less interested in the actual theme of PotC than I am the new elements that are sure to be produced for ship building etc. Sure the licenses tend to cost a bit more, or it sure feels that way sometimes, but remember that TLG also tends to spend a bit more on them in new piece and figs.

Given what little TLG have done with their own themes this year -Atlantis/World Racers/Kingdoms- i'll be honest, it's been proven time and time again that the licensed themes invariably have better design, innovation and impact on the world of Lego through new pieces and elements. For me PoP and Harry Potter are *the* themes of the year.

If POTC follows suit -and i'm sure it will- i'm looking forward to it.
